Default Latch top motor rebuild

So... the convertible latch motor (driver's side) has eaten the internal gear, which is par for the course. These are new "improved" motors installed under recall in 2012 and, of course, same problem as the old ones. And the recall is conveniently "over".

I purchased the repair kit which consists of two new gears. Read the instructions, watch Gale's video and, well, would like to avoid doing it. Does anyone do this rebuild as a service or doing a trade-in program, so to speak? Or am I overthinking this and it's not nearly as fiddly as it sounds? Still, I'd pay a reasonable price to someone who has a clue and done this before.

I had same thoughts and after watching the video, had confidence to handle with the tools highlighted. The "puller" tool made it easy and bought one on Amazon.

It was much easier than it looks....just take your time.

The hardest part was in snapping the case half flush into the other half, after fixing the internals, but after a few tries, it slid flush into place.

Aligning the cogwheels in the right position is key to trigger the microswitch within the motor, which you will feel and hear its activation click, when you have it in the right place.

As far as rebuilding, Vertex of Miami may still do this......

Thanks, guys!

I actually took apart an extra pax side motor I have and it seemed pretty straight forward. Need to get a small puller (maybe rent one from Autozone) and probably some sort of a vise as I'm not sue ho else to press the new gear back onto the shaft. DPLUS mentions hammering the old one out and using C-Clamp for the new one. That might be easier if that works. When you hammered, did you put anything on top part of the shaft, as they say it's pretty soft in the video. Using C-clamp - was it straightforward? Again video mentions that they had hard time even with the vice.

The cam position seems fairly easy to adjust so there's a "click" on both ends of travel. I'll try to make some sort of indexing mark before taking it off s well.

Use a block of wood or similar when knocking out the shaft so not to damage the shaft.
Mine was easy to press together with the C-clamp and using a socket as a spacer.
