How can you tell if you have full or partial leather seats? I recently Lexol'd my partial leather seats (I think), but couldn't really tell which parts of the seats were leather vs. vinyl.
It looks like only the preforated parts are leather to me.
Here's a picture of these full leather seats that look exactly like mine. I have a '96 C4S.
(Chris...hope you don't mind me borrowing your pic). Thanks!

If in doubt, take a soldering gun or match head and see if it melts.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I originally used the leather conditioner on those sections, but it didn't seem like it absorbed the product the perforated sections did so I assumed they were vinyl, which I ended up using Vinylex on.
Thanks!

The entire front surface of the seat is leather ... it's sewn to the vinyl, which is what the "real" sides (i.e., where the recline and seat controls are) and back of the seat is made of. So, the top and bottom bolsters are leather, as are the perforated seating areas. You can tell by the grain. On a full-leather car, everything is leather.

The first set looks like full leather, the second appears to be partial. A good test is to indent the material with your fingernail in an unobtrusive location; the vinyl will "remember" its original shape, the leather will hold the mark. The vinyl is also very impervious to scratches in the surface color, the leather is not.

Thanks for the help guys. Chris...thanks for the comparo pics.
What about the shifter boot and door panels? Seems like the strip where the speaker and window switches are leather and the rest is vinyl??
On the steering wheel...I believe the rim is leather and the airbag cover is vinyl?
I'm going have to take a look at it later. This gives me an excuse to "visit" the car today in my garage after work.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)

We've got the same seats....leather fronts and seating area and vinyl sides and backs. doors are vinyl too. Here's a question for the board, did they make leather for the doors in '95-'98?

Now you should get the silicone from the vinylex out of the leather pores on the front of your seat. See www.colorplus.com for their leather FAQ, and buy some of their cleaner and Soffener to use on the smooth leather that is not absorbing the leather conditioner. Unless you have full leather, or a Carrera S, the door strip (and the entire door panel) is vinyl.
