Default Got my car back today.

My car had been at Hergeshiemers for 2 months.
My check engine light lit up earlier this year, and after replacing sparkplug wires...etc.....I brought it too Mark and Laura, and it turned out to be the BIG check engine light problem While it was there I had a few goodies added

IMO the "itialian tune ups" will not prevent the carbon buildup.
While I was at the shop Laura showed my some check valves with varying miles, one valve had only 24,000 miles, and it was badly rusted! Its my understanding, that the check valve allows air to flow....when it gets rusted....the air has no where to go...so it backs up into the ports(hopefully Laura will claify this)

For you guys/gals with low mile cars, you might want to have the check valve changed ASAP.....it might save you some $$$$ Hell for anyone who has not changed the checkvalve......Now might be the time!!!!!!

anyway....its great to be driving my black beast again.

and a Great big thanks to Mark and Laura

Boris,
I hope Laura will chime in here. She will explain much better than I ever could.
It does seem to be an obsecure little "doo hickey" that is not a "recomended" maintance item, but should be done at every major service interval.

Hmmm... I'm very interested in where/what this check valve is, too.

2 months... Yikes! You must have been going through withdrawals.

Wow...must of been a tough tough 2 months! Glad you got it back tho.

I'm gonna bump this thread up a little so it's a little more visable to Laura, so we can get some more info and hopefully prevent some $$.

Does this valve even exist on OBD1 cars?

Thanks Bob. Do you recommend changing this part during scheduled maintanence intervals?

Glen called this the "secondary air valve" I think. I've got my engine out and the new part waiting to go in on his recommendation - the original is totally rusted out. I am waiting on the part that sits right above this in the pic that was the subject of a recent thread...

This check valve in like a one-way valve only letting airflow towards the exhaust ports for cold start-up while the air pump is running. Then when the air pump shuts off, the check valve then prevents exhaust pressure from the exhaust ports to back flow to the air pump. Also preventing heat build-up into the upper engine compartment. From what I understand, this valve is made in Japan, so the story goes..

Phil, wow, two months.....must have had some really heavy duty window tint installed????
