Default was there a carrera turbo s gt2?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about buying a car in korea for when I travel out there and I saw this for sale online. In Korean it says it's a carrera s turbo gt2. Can someone look at the pictures and tell me what this car is? is it turbo or what?

Thanks!

There was as far as I know, never a 993 Carrera S GT2. Just a 993 Carrera GT2. The car seems to be a GT2. Only difference I see from the stock GT2 at first glance are the Ruf style air vents on the rear bumper...

The 993 GT2 was never imported to the States (that I kneo of). It is a turbo car. I saw a replica once in the Bay Area. White color as well.

This sample has all the correct body work: riveted front and rear fenders, big tail with air channels, wrap-around lower front splitters etc. It could be the real deal. How much are they asking for this?

Having had a good look (and a few laps) in a GT2 at Silverstone recently, a few things don't look quite right. The rear bumper vents aren't right, and the engine / intercooler layout doesn't look quite right.

But many have been modified (including the one I was in) and there is not much documentation on these cars anyway. So depends on the provenance with the car - there are certainly a few look-alikes around.....

cheers, Maurice

Looks like a turbo with the body conversion to me.

It is a GT2 conversion kit, no real GT2 in that pic. But nice car, I would change the rims

thanks for all the responses. I went and looked at the car and it does look like it's just a 993 turbo with a gt2 bodykit on it. the asking price is $100k US. I think it's a fair deal being that tax here in Korea is 110% of the car value. That means that i'm getting the car at around $48k with about $52k in taxes. i'm going to test drive it this weekend (dealer didn't have tags for it) and then make a decision. hopefully i'll be the new owner of a 993!!!

Thanks again guys!

That looks like a 993tt with bolt ons.
It has rear wiper, electric windows, electric mirrors, headlight washers and sunroof - don't think GT2s had any of these items
The rear arches fit too neatly at the front edge and the recesses where the bolts go through are not like original GT2.
The rear bumper looks like a Ruf part.
The seats look like Porsche RS as fitted to 964RS, 993RS and GT2
The speedo is 320kph which is 993tt (or Gt2)
The intercooler is painted stock the shroud has been removed to allow the "ram air" intake to be fitted - not particularly well resolved
Someone has obviously spent plenty on the car so one would expect it to be well maintained.
I would think that with all the aesthetic mods that the engine will have been worked on - please let us know the specification and the claimed output figures - if you would like some critical analysis
BTW if they claim more than 550hp tell them that you know for a fact that a 3.6 993tt will not make more than 550hp with a stock intercooler

I have one reservation. In one photo with the engine idling, the oil pressure indicates 1.3 or 1.4 bars.

In my Maintenance manual, the minimum idling oil pressure with oil temp at 90C, is 2.0 - 2.5 bars. Likely to be gauge or sending unit. Been there recently.... a bad day if you need to rebuild the engine.

On the other hand, 6600 kms is like 4000 miles!!! The thing is new.

Good luck.

I would be careful to check how true is that mileage. I don't see someone doing all these changes to a brand new car, although it is obviously possible, but typically you do that when you need a change . I would ask for the maintenance book and check the records at the dealership where it was sold. Also you can checkout for wear and tear the suspension rubber links (seems to have stock suspension) and other parts under the car and inside it, it should give you a rough idea. Obviously full PPI, leak down and compression. Nice car, hope it turns out clean.

On turbos, this is about the right oil pressure reading unlike N/A.

Parkman,

Regarding the car tax, if you are an American buying a car in Europe, and ended up paying the VAT, you can claim a VAT refund when the car leaves Europe for the U.S. Does similar rules apply to Korea? If so, that's one heck of a price.

Another tip, please post the VIN# if you get it. We can help decipher if it's a factory turbo etc. It would be sweet if it's an U.S. Spec. turbo to start. That would make bringing it back home much easier. That's what I learned when I got my RUF.

Great looking car. Good luck.

This is not a GT2. Side skirts are wrong. The genuine GT2 utilised the twin turbo/C2S and C4S bodyshell and did not have lower side skirts which this car has. Instead, the lower sill of the bodyshell remain exposed showing the original widebody shell. Further, the rear wheel arches stopped at the lower door sill line, they did not extend beyond the lower door sill line. Rear bumper as mentioned is entirely wrong. GT2 did not have the headlight washers either, even in the Street Version. Interior also wrong- even the Street Version had RS style door panels, gearshift, and lack of rear seats. Car had GT embroidered on rear carpet in similar fashion to the 993 RS. Car also lacked carpetting in boot, and seats of street version were adjustable, not fixed as on this car. Rims as mentioned elsewhere are also wrong.

I wonder if that air intake is more effective...
