Default Chrome wheels or not ?

Any thoughts about going w/ chrome wheels or not ?

I actually like either finish but am wondering what the general consensus is. I dont want anyone to be offended by responses, I know it's a personal preference. I'm just concerned that the chrome wheels may look a bit bling-bling?

I'm NOT concerned about weight and the car isnt tracked either. It's strictly for appearance.
ps - if anyone wants to trade my 17" cups for some 17" turbo twists, let me know !!
thanks
Tim

I had a black 993 with Chromed 17" turbo twists. What an attention getter. Email me at rmlbend@bendcable.com and I'll send some pictures. The consensus previously was that the weakening of the wheels due to chroming was detrimental to the Rennlist Racers. However, chicks dig big chrome wheels on black Porsches. The chromed 17's were very easy to keep clean.
My 996 has 18" wheels as you can see by my avatar. I really like them as I can easily clean the whole wheel including the inside rim when I'm washing my car. Those 18's look great on a 993, too. And there are 18"twist availabel from guys upgrading to the new thin 5 spoke wheels, etc.

I just put after market chrome 17" turbos on my slate grey cab. Got them from Tire Rack and love the look. It also scored big with my two teenagers too so there are side benefits. Porsche had difficulty with flaking and went away from chrome. My vote is yeah then and Porsche's is no.

Chrome wheels aren't my thing at all, but if they make you happy go for it.

too much bling - especially for a black car.

just to introduce another option - i had polished wheels on my previous car (a white 964). Those are worthwhile on a white car that doesn't stand out as much. but on black i just think it is too much....

cheers,
boris

Chrome wheels are not my thing...BUT...if they have to be used, black is the only color that they compliment well IMO.

When I bought my 97 Cab NB it came with chrome wheels. It was the last option I would have picked and planned on replacing them when I bought the car. But over time I have come to like them. My car is white and they seem to add to the overall look. So, if you're thinking you would like it, go for it!!

I hate chrome wheels. Polished is the limit for me (and will never be on my car unless it is a polished rim outer on a 3 pc), but chrome is way too bling bling dats phat yo shizzle nizzle dubs for my tastes.

I had chrome on my black NSX. The chrome started to separate under the bead of the tire causing a slow leak. Never again.

Hmm,

Just wondering what the responses would be if the same question is asked on the 996/GT2 forum in 6speedonline.

Interesting responses. As with anything that is a show, not a go, item it is always personal taste-you pay your $ and get what appeals to you. When I was debating changing my cups I asked the listers for advice on 17 vs 18 inch wheels, but not for the design (unsprung weight limits were also a factor). Much like car colors (exterior, interior, cab) it is what appeals to the owner that should be the deciding factor.

As I do have them, Phil, what is this thing about chicks? At 57 the only chicks that look at me are the type that Colonel Sanders serves.
