Obviously a matter of personal taste...for me, I don't like chromed wheels. I really don't like chrome very much anywhere. Like I much prefer the "shadowline" option on BMWs; it replaces the body trim with matte black finished pieces in place of chrome.

I'm to lazy to read the whole thread but chroming is bad, it does nasty things to the alloy, weakens it, you'll get air leaks. get them polished or painted with the bright silver from the 40th A.E.

bling bling guys like it. Poseurs like it. Porsche enthusiasts dont. LA likes it. polished is fine
Chrome is not. But on the flip side none of us drive your car so you should do what YOU
want....... which should be polished.

OG, you took the words right out of my mouth - er, response. It's ubiquitous in LA and the automotive equivalent of Mr. T and his jewelry. It's not good, but in Mpls., it's really not good. But if you must, there are some polished Cups on Ebay....

Tim,
I was just commenting on what lexpilot said, namely:
However, chicks dig big chrome wheels on black Porsches.
As far as being 57... it is all a question of confidence...

Confidence is flighty. I had a woman who I hadnt seen in ten years tell me yesterday I look EXACTLY like Mathew Brodrick. I was jazzed! I went home and told my wife I look like a movie star! and her repsonse was and I quote " No you dont! now shutup!" Confidence- now you see it and now you dont!

OG,
You should know by now, that, as a rule, that is what wives are like...

I personally would go for polished wheels over chrome, but my current ones are painted. My cab came with chromed hollow TT twists which I was fortunate enough to get some trade-in credit when I bought new wheels. Aside from appearance (which is personal and if chrome works for you, then go for it), there is the issue wrt weakening of hollow twists (which Jeff 993TT experienced and posted previously) and also the increased repair costs if you should curb a wheel. Proper repair of a chrome wheel requires that the wheel first be de-chromed, the rim then fixed, and only then should it be chromed again.

As ever, its your choice...
But, to me a Porsche is (was ? ) about function over form, uncompromising engineering, and driving. Not so much about chrome plated wheels...

HA ! I love the bling pic w/ the chrome wheels. I'm going to have to think about this one a bit. Chicks digging chrome wheels is huge selling point, but please dont tell my wife that.

thanks for everyone's responses. I'll let you know what I finally decide. I just came across a very good deal and was considering the chrome route.
thanks again!
Tim

I wouldn't do it, my 928S had chrome wheels on it when I bought it, the chrome was peeling and the wheels needed to be refinished, I went back to stock porsche flat dish wheels. The chrome wheels will peel over time.

Here it is on Ocean Metallic Blue. Chicks like it? Cool!

I have had no structural issues. They were on the car when I bought it. If I ever replace the wheels, I would not choose chrome finish because I prefer the appearance of the stock finish.
