Post 993 Tire Question

Want to replace the front tires on my '95 993 C2. Currently have Pirelli P-Zero Assimetricos 205/50/ZR-17. Any suggestions for replacements at this size? thanks in advance.

Do you have these front tires on the rear as well? You prob. want to match the sets or at least the tire treads.

If only changing one side (either fronts or rears), replace them with identical ones to what is on other side of car. Don't mix-and-match tire brands/models on a 911.

I did such few years back, put new BFG Comp T/A ZR in back of 993 with OE Yoko A008 in front. Car had more oversteer than even my old '76 911S!

If you want, can go to a 225/45X17 in same model tire (I assume you have 255/40 in rear). Decent upgrade.

I have Toyo Proxes ZF4's on the back that are almost new but I couldn't find any specs listing ZF4's at that size, only 205/40/ZR-17's

MFC,

See if you can find 225/45-17's. They'll work fine. Otherwise, change all four tires with something else. The P-Zero is a great tire.

I just replaced tires on my factory 17" cup wheels. Had Bridgestone S0-2 Pole Positions on them (225/45/17F, 255/40/17R) and did not like them one bit. For street driving, they were acceptable (basically, almost any tire is acceptable, right...), but they sucked on the track..very "slippery".

I just installed P-Zero's yesterday (never tried these before) and am curious how they do.. It seems these tires are either loved or hated...we'll see...

Oh, switching fronts from 205's to 225's made a huge difference in dialing-out understeer. I also had an alignment job done, and this combo really worked very well.. My car is beautifully neutral, with slight oversteer (Perfect combo for me...)

To those of you who have 225/45/17 fronts on the factory cups, would you post a picture. I'm interested in what the sidewall bulge looks like with 225s instead of 205s. Thanks!

I will tonight, but trust me, it's nothing to worry about, in fact I don't even notice any bulge.

Here you go: Bridgestone RE730 in 225x45

Not much to look at...

Assume you meant you have Toyo Proxes FZ4. According to Toyo's website, they are made in 225/45ZR17. (Toyo Proxes FZ4 sizes.)

BTW, 993s generally go through 2 sets of rears per 1 set of fronts. So this IS a good time to bite the bullet and switch all 4 to another tire unless you are OK living w/the Toyos for awhile. If so, there's a dealer locator at the link above.

E.J.,
Thanks for the pic...appreciate it! BTW, have you, like the others on this thread, noticed a significant improvement in reduced understeer with the 225 front? (should I assume you run the 255s in the rear).

Edward, On the street I run the 255s out back and yes the push is a little less, but I don't really drive hard on the street. On the track I use 225 and 275 hoosiers and it works great. If you have a pushing problem, play with the pressures a little...
