I bought a product called Catscram, which emits a high-frequency noise when Cats set off its motion detector. Great idea, except that it doesn't seem to work. I still get the pawprints.
All a way of saying that I'm also interested in somebody having some success with this.

Try (in no particular order):
1) Animal traps. Do a yahoo search or stop by a local pet store. I'd stay away from the Have-A-Heart name brand because they are not as well built. After they are caught you can dispose of them as you please.
2) Car cover. Good protection but they will sharpen their claws on it.
3) Pellet gun. This is a harsh way, but trust me, they WILL eventually get the message.
Would you seriously use a trap to catch a cat, then "dispose of it", because of a few tracks. Or worse, fire a pellet gun at it? At closer range, a pellet will pierce the skin of a cat, cause infection, and a slow painful death, or a big vet bill for one of your neighbours. Listen to yourself! Get a life!
A hear that if you buy blocks of camphor work. I have a friend that buys camphor in hard blocks and cuts them into pieces and places them around his house and cars. The cats avoid the area because of the smell.
Since they are sensitive to smell it's a pain in the a_ _ for them so they avoid the area.
Only thing is, the camphor over time looses it's potency and must be changed.
If you ask me it's a cheap way to get the cats to stay away. Everybody wins your car and the cats.
I wish I had a problem with cats walking on my car. A year ago, I had a mouse living on the engine of my F355 Spyder, and I still have no idea how it survived after me driving it. Later, it moved homes to my Volvo engine, where my dog later discovered its nest. During its discovery, my Yorki jumped on the hood of my volvo and tried to dig in...hence, my volvo needed a paint job after the fumigation.
At least cats arent scary when they jump on you when you are checking your oil. Keep the cat!!

FYI I had a rat's nest under the hood of an XJS I had about 8 years ago. THe &$^#%@ rat ate through a bunch of wires and did big $$$ damage. The good news however is that I pitched it to my insurance company as an act of god, not unlike a flood, hurricane or other natural disaster. They covered it no questions asked. Worth keeping in mind in case Mickey Mouse comes back!
you are right Rob!! luckily, none of my wires were chewed up...I got my whole car checked up afterwards. Exept for some food stored in my engine and some other random things the mouse had collected, everything else looked fairly normal.
Get a thick car cover; I found this out the hard way. Eventually the cat will get up on your almost flat, bulging fender. However, the cat will slide down it, leaving big scratches down it, the first 20 times he learns that the surface is slippery. The thin silver porsch covers won't work either. Claw marks will go right through.
I can relate to rats. My dad bought a saab 9000 turbo in '86. He had it a month before a rat made a nest out of nearly every expensive engine wire under the hood!
Hey Dick, Glad to see that you finally got connected. I used to raise Bengal cats and I don't know of any substance or device (other than electric shock) that will keep cats off of anything. Maybe you could set a motion sensor alarm to be sensetive enough to scare the cat off. But cats are stubborn and by the time the cat got the message your neighbors would be signing a petition to get you out of the neighborhood. Good luck.
I didn't think I had much to contribute to this thread, but then I remembered that I have seen mats that are electrically charged to keep pets off couches, furniture etc... in a catalog like Herringtons, or Frontgate or something. I did a google search for 'cat scat mat' and found a bunch. Seems like a good idea. See thislink for more info.
