The 996 is also a "real" 911. It is, of course different than a 993. Both cars are great and "real" 911s. Preference is a matter of taste.

 

so it is a 'real' 911, but how does it compare to a 993 in terms of handling, build quality, looks, sound.... etc?

someone once said, it sounds like it has a 'sewing machine' under the hood!

 

Although it is quite unlikely that I will upgrade to a 996 (except GT3) I must say if sound is what u r after, try a new 02 996 with the optional sport exhaust package.

You will be surprised how sweet it is. IMHO, it is even better than the standard 993 exhaust with the drilled air box.

 

Take that lame 993 vs. 996 crap to the OT board. No one here is interested anymore. Both cars are 911s and as this is a free country, you get to pick whichever one you want to drive and can afford to buy. We are all Porsche owners and slamming another owner is just bad form and only reflects a lack of maturity and a measured amount of insecurity. I hope you enjoy your car, but there is no need to put another car/owner down in order for you to feel good about yours.

I have to agree with Hank. This has been argued ad nauseum and I find it petty. I have also driven an '02 (C4 coupe) and I have to say it is a damn fine car. I have no doubt it is faster than my C4S.
