Going to mount Rennline fire extinguisher on my 96 c2
instructions aren’t great and can’t find a video for a 993. Rennline states that the seat needs to be taken out. Before I do all that , looking for advice from anyone who has installed the Rennline mount
I had Rennline fire extinguisher set up in my 1997 C2 for years. Fortunately never had to use it. It looks cool very racer like, but it eats up a lot of foot room and always seems to be in the way.
Eventually, I pulled it out and gave it to my Indie to mount in his 964. Instead I used an Element 50 fire extinguisher that I stored in the side pocket. Maybe worth a look for you before you mount the Rennline unit.
Answer your original question, the seat definitely has to come out.
Watch the videos on the Element Products it’s really the way to go. I have them in all my cars, at home and workshop and garage.
Element 100 all the way. Unless the boy racer aesthetic is the goal.... No recharging, no legroom loss, good for all fire types....
I have them in all of our cars and even one on a new tractor. I'll eventually remove the Halotron extinguisher & Stable Energies mount that's in the 993.
Well, I just finished installing it and I like the look and I don’t see how it takes away from leg room at all since it is tight up against the seat. I will say that it is a terrible design and much more complicated than it needs to be , but, it’s done
It's really the only place and method to mount really, without getting very invasive and unrestorable. I was able to fit mine by just loosening all the seat bolts for a bit of play.
I carry a halon extinguisher for minimal damage on deployment, I've been looking at the element extinguisher too and may augment with one in glove box or frunk but I like the instant accessibility of the passenger seat mount.
On tours with my wife, I'll stick it behind my seat so she can move her legs around (essential on more than 50mile trips}
Most important thing is that you have an extinguisher. The first 30secs are critical!!
Hi Drswiger,
My experience actually using a fire extinguisher is that one will only get a few seconds of use out of the ones folks attach to the seat rails. If looking race-inspired is your goal, go for it! If actual fire suppression is your goal, one will need a much larger extinguisher or maybe even two or an integrated fire suppression system as used on race cars.
