Default Experiences with LED headlight bulbs

Hi Rennfolk,
As the world moves from HID to LED aftermarket headlight upgrades I am looking for feedback on their performance.
Things such as brightness,
illumination pattern
or other performance variables that were good or not so good.

Please reply below.

Thanks,
Andy

I ditched the the HID's, which in my experience were unreliable (Chinese made components that fail regularly), and installed a pair of $35 LED bulbs. I am extremely happy. No better or worse lighting than HID, but no more ballasts and wiring and bulbs.

Porsche Classic appear to have a H1 option now, for certain markets. Anyone willing to give it a try?

I thought one of the connectors was a bullet style?

Looks like Porsche has an answer:

This looks expensive but attractive. Does anyone know the specs, including color temperature and lumen output?

I thought the 993 headlight reflector design was not LED-friendly. How does this bulb resolve that?

After my low beam HID ballasts from Tore failed last year I tried switching to a plug in $40 H1 LED from Amazon. The install was super easy and the brightness from the LEDs in my garage and driveway seemed great, but once I got out onto the road at night the brightness and illumination on the road was disappointing. I am thinking of switching back to a newer halogen bulb from Philips or Sylvania. From what I've read, it seems that LED bulbs don't reflect very well out of stock halogen headlamps. They look bright from the outside, but don't project well down the road.
If anyone here has a better recommendation for a halogen bulb I would consider it. I don't see how an LED bulb from Porsche would work any better in our halogen headlamps compared to an Amazon LED. I'd love to be wrong, if someone has a great experience with an LED bulb please share.

Do you have a link or details on the LED bulb that worked poorly? There’s been a huge range of LED H1 bulbs sold on Amazon.

These are the H1 LEDs I purchased, looks like they are no longer available though.

I am happy with the LED H1s from Carnewal.

I have the LED side markers and brake lights from Bergvill which I also like.

I am still looking for an LED H3 for the foglight.

Andy - I am also in Dallas if you want to check them out.

Do you have a friend in Europe you can ship them to and then forwarded to yourself? How much were they?

if you google the part number there are several dealers in the US that carry them. Maybe that would work?

I just installed these H3 fog light LED bulbs (Mealam brand), and so far so good. 18w, 6000k. Quite a bit brighter than standard halogen bulbs. I have Techart fog lights (a VW part), but I assume they’d work similarly well in other fog light assemblies.

Im not sure I’ll use the fog lights much though. I used to use them for daytime running lights, but I also got some little LED B9 marker lights (inside the fog light assembly) that are crazy bright, maybe even ok as daytime running lights. 5w, 450 lumens, Blyily brand.

Any issues with voltage loads affecting other electronics? I've heard that can be an issue... I have the Tore HID's and am very happy with them, but I am always tinkering with something
