997 vs 993

Still looks alot like a 996 from the 3/4 shot but man, does that front end look good! All it would need is the hood vent and it would be perfect! The hips look nice in that picture as well.

The wheels are a little too "erector set" influenced for me, but I suppose I only have eyes for my own - still being in the honeymoon period and such.
A hood vent, and the accompanying hood cleavage, so to speak, would be a wonderful thing, I agree.

I really like it on line - but I will reserve judgement until I see one in person.
I think an S Cab would be a good 1st 997, too bad we probably wont see one for quite awhile.

Saw the same car in real life at my local Porsche dealer for the first time yesterday. Looks very nice indeed. The publicity pictures do not do it justice. I was pleasantly surprised. The front is particularly nice (wonder why? Hmmm.. cuz it looks like a 993? Must be coincidental... )

There is at least one tuner offering a 993-style hood for the 996, so it probably won't be too long before one is offered on the 997. The thing is that it's functional on the 993 and probably only cosmetic on a 996/997, unless perhaps the battery needs more air. Not that everything on the car needs to be fully functional, but it's not surprising that Porsche dispensed with it if there was no real purpose.
The 997 doesn't look like a 993 to me, rather it looks like it was inspired by the 959, in much the same way that the 968 and 993 were. That this "old timey" front-end looks great on a modern car is a testament to how far ahead of its time the 959 was, IMHO.
Anyone else notice that the 997 has the reverse of the 993 when it comes to the hood shut line versus the fender/bumper lines? Personally, I'd rather that they flow better instead of being such an abrupt transition, but then again I'm not an automotive engineer and don't know whether or not this would be feasible. I do know that cars such as Astons and Ferraris seem to do a better job of this, and perhaps that's one of the reasons why they cost so much more. If they had to share so much with an entry-level car like the 997 does, perhaps they wouldn't have such awesome lines.
