Post weight loss

Some interesting data if you are trying to get your 993 to RS weight for PCA Racing.

The passenger air bag and mounting bracket is 9.13 lbs

The rear carpet, seats, padding and speaker deck with speakers is 26.4 lbs more than the RS rear carpet package.

The stock steering wheel with air bag I did not weigh but would guess it is 5lbs more than the Cup wheel.

The RS doors (don't have these yet, but soon) save 14 lbs per door. This is with manual windows, no speakers.

The factory CD changer is 4.76.

Add the Fabspeed supercups in lieu of mufflers, light race seats, heavy roll bar/cage, delete a/c... and presto 2800#

Interesting! And very, very tempting...
Although i.e. a/c delete here (for street car) is something that this cool Finn finds little too hard to do...

Although when/if my 993 'moves' to Finland, she might soon join her 'older sibling' in a a/c- & heater-less club!

How hard it is to do the rear seat, deck, speaker etc. delete & replace it with carpet? And would it be hard to make it back, in case I want to put my car back to stock (fat chance but I like to keep that 'window' open).

That 2800 is my goal too!

BTW, that yellow run group photo, nice!

The a/c weight is minimal, maybe 3 or 4 lbs but I never use it so its in the way. I took out all the associated hardware as well so it would pass tech as a a/c delete car. The rear carpet has a firm heavy rubber backing with dense, maybe 2" thick foam glued to the metal body pan. This is destroyed when you remove it and it takes hours of chemical clean up to get rid of the glue it leaves behind. Sticky mess. Once you dive off the "track car" high dive you never go back. The rear carpet is also one piece going under the console so you need to cut it behind the front seats.

I drove my car to the office last weekend. First street ride in some time. It was no fun. You just can't have it both ways.

AH, that mess sounds 'tempting'...

I don't worry about harsh ride etc. I know myself (my 911 doesn't have many amenities...) well enough and it would be fine, call me grazy but that's how I am. <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />

That was the route I took with my previous 964- I had ripped everything out of the car including all the sound proofing (front, rear, everywhere!).

Besides the noise (which was I must admit fun), the key problem that I noticed was the additional heat in the cabin space (I had a C4 so the transmission tunnel was a nice heater element in the car all year round- sweat wonderful sweat).

The end result was that I bought a whole new set of sound proofing etc and stuffed it all back in the car...I think I am just getting old....

By comparison, I just love all the sound proofing and plushness of my "new" 993...ooohhhh I am DEFINITELY getting old....

Cheers

Harold

Sad to say that I could lose just about all that weight in my 993 if the driver would just stay on his diet!

Anywho's, I'm having trouble with the math. Don't we have to lose over 200# to get to 2800? The above appears to be less than that, although I may be overestimating the weight of a good full cage.

Leslie, maybe that's why your RS feels warmer than my C4 and there's nothing wrong with your a/c

Wink

Surely the aircon sustem weighs more than 3-4 lbs. My estimate would have been 30+, with all the associated plumbing etc.

Why only 3 or 4lbs?

I was also surprised the a/c was so light. The compressor is the only piece with a few #'s.

The seats and mufflers are biggies. I also replaced the hood with the RS wing. Removing the wing motor assy and stock retractable spoiler helped. The windshield which I replaced with lexan was only a couple of lbs savings. They all add up if you are wondering why another 993 out accelerates you on the track.

The RS flywheel and clutch is a 12# +/- savings I am told.

Kim & others,

what's the name of Recaro seat found in 993 RS?

Is it GT3 or what? (I'm not talking about the new seat that Gert sells but the one in 993).

Thanks.

Re 993 RSCS weight savings:

Guys-- Under pressure, I am revealing some of my heretofore secret RS weight-savings tips:

(*) Remove pair of dangling fluffy dice from mirror-- -6 oz.

(*) Remove Bazooka boom-box bass woofers from rear-- -30 lbs.

(*) Replace stock floor boards with drilled aluminum units-- -1 lb., but a +$200 cash transfer to your mechanic, who gets to blow it on a sushi dinner.

(*) Remove that plastic Golden Retriever doggy-doll from the rear shelf-- you know, the one whose head bobs up and down as you drive-- -2 lbs. and + inumberable style points.

(*) Remove stock window-washer reservoir, replace with RS unit filled with helium-- -4 lbs.

(*) Summon techno-wizard Robert Leinen to your house, have him replace everything with titanium-- -500 lbs., + $10,000 (est.).

(*) The rest is classified...

Lee, You of all people cannot poke fun at weight reduction. He with the only $200K RS replica in captivity.

Bill, 45# on the a/c and coolant? I must have left something in the car. Where do I get the additional 41#?
