Post Value of 993 "Cup" Wheels?

I have been looking for some 17" 993 "cup" wheels to replace the stock 16" phone dials on my 951. I have heard very bad things
about the replicas that are available and as such am only considering OEM wheels. I am finding many sets selling in the $600-$800
range, many without tires and/or center caps. Can anyone here tell me what the market values is for these wheels? I have found a very nice
set on ebay, but they are considerably more than what i've been seeing (buy it now price). The thing is is that they come with new tires (< 500 miles) and have been completely refinished with colored center caps. Are these a decent deal?

Any opinions/advice appreciated.

Based on my extensive search for 17" wheels a few months ago, $600 for a set of Cup rims in excellent condition without center caps is a pretty good deal. I believe that several of the wheel re-sellers are getting $800+ for similar sets.

The tires and center caps are key here. The tires are worth $350 and the caps are worth $150. So basically you are paying $800 for your wheels. I have a set that is not for sale with no center caps and half-worn Sumitomos, but if someone offered me $800, I'd jump on it! In my opinion, you'd probably be better off buying just the wheels for aroun $600. Then go to Tirerack.com and get some better tires. The Yokos make a lot of noise when driving on the highway. I think a Dunlop is a lot better tire for the $$$. Around $500 delivered You can get the caps from Performance Products/Automotion for $150. Then you ar in the whole set-up for around $1250 and you have better tires! Just my opinion! <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Like you I had been looking on e-Bay for sometime for 17" cup wheels. I lost several bids that went over my $800 bidding limit. Me sure to add in $100-$125 for shipping. Rare to find them w/o tires but generally tires are mismatched front/rear or worn out or both so the value of the tires themselves is generally minimal. Look for the auctions where there is an individual shot of each wheel and the seller makes some attempt to detail the imperfections that most assuredly are there. BTW I found a set of 18" turbo wheels w/ the dreaded Conti's that were pull-offs from the local p-car dealers personal demo for $900 (no shipping cost). Tires did not matter as these will be used at the track until I can afford some multi-piece light weights so perferred my the heavyweights on this board.

I just sold a set on eBay for $800 last week--they were in outstanding condition with worn tires. You moght find a beat up set for the track for $600, but in months of looking for a set (Ebay, Rennlist, etc.), $750-800 (w worn or no tires) is about right. Retailers are still asking $1200-$1400 for them (no tires), by comparison.

Here's a thread from Feb 2002 that provides some additional data points.

I have been contemplating buying a set of track wheels (I shredded my street tires at last DE) and am wondering if the 17" cup wheels will work with my C4S. I currently have 2001 TT Wheels and the 11's look great with the 295/30's. but they are expensive.

With the big reds, I am concerned about spacing/clearance. A set of wheels for 6-$700 even with worn tires sounds good to me when I just spent over 1100 for new Pirelli's.

I recently sold my cups for 1100 with 90% So2's F 60% So2's Rear the wheels were near perfect except for a small place that I touched up when i scratched them getting them out of the attic.

I was pretty pleased with them until the 18" RUF's were in-place!

oi-punx,

I have some cup wheels sitting in my garage that I'd be willing to give you a good deal on. The catch is that I've only got 3 good ones (one of the rears was damaged last year and is cracked). However, if you're interested you could probably complete the set from wheel enhancement for a few hundred bucks.

Email me privately (spicer_sean@hotmail.com) if you are interested.

cheers,

sean
