Can I safely fit 996 17 inch wheels to my 993 Carrera 2?

The orange display of the computer has failed, it is now dim green and almost unreadable. How do you/can you fix the illumination.

I have the 17" 996 "twist" wheels on my narrow body 993, fit is no problem. Sorry no computer on my car, I cannot help you there.
