Angry Window switches!!!

Does anyone else have the same problem with the window switches breaking as I do? I seem to have to replace mine (drivers side mostly) ever 3 to 4 months. It's super easy to do but it's just frustrating and at 25 bucks a pop it can start getting expensive.

Has anyone upgraded these or is it just something we all have to live with.

Thanks

Hey Dan - Before I bought my car, I drove a C4S that had the driver's switch broken. Owner told me it was always breaking and mentioned something about how once it breaks, the mounting hole gets messed up and has to be fixed...Not sure if this is true but thought it may help. Good luck man

PS - Wanna do a drive out to Palomar this weekend ? Shoot me a PM...

I have seen on ebay aluminum window switches that are supposed to be hardier. Look kind of nice too. If you do a search, I think (?) I posted the link a few months ago. I know nothing about the switches except what I read in the ad.

I have never experienced a broken switch in either my 993 or previous 964, but some people/cars definitely seem to be prone to this problem, not sure why.

Maybe somebody else has direct info on the aluminum switches....

I've broken a few over the last 5 years, but it has never screwed up the cutout. It's an easy swap, but yes a little of a pain...

LOL, I posted almost the exact same annoyance on the 964 board some weeks ago!

What I find frustrating is that each time one of mine breaks, I disassemble it and find that it is broken in the EXACT same spot: the little plastic spring housings have cracked at the top!!! One might think this design flaw would have been rectified in the 993!!

In almost three years of Porsche ownership with two different 911's, I've, knock on wood, never broken a window switch.

Gone through a half-dozen, at least. Never lost one one in my 964.

I've averaged one every two years on both the C4S and 930...I just keep spares with the relays...one of the oddities to be added to the "keep in the car at all times" sorta things. Also, when I think about it, I try to use the switch more straight on than kind of lazily from the side (the more natural position)...

God is in the quirks...
