24FPS- They don't break off. Just the a little piece inside breaks. You can usually tell when it going to break just by how the switch feels.

I've gone through so many that I keep a drawer full of spares in the garage. 964 and the 993 - they're the same switch. No difference. It's really annoying...and they're not cheap. I've definitely gone through over a dozen in 5 years.

I keep 2 spares handy all the time now. I've gone through 4 in 3 years (and now 2 cars).

Whats annoying is that the part seems so typically high standard and sturdy yet the small flaw in terms of the spring housing results in frequent breaking. If there was a way to reinforce these housings then the problem would completely disappear IMO!

Same thing happened to me guys. The plastic nipples which the window switch pivots on breaks. At least on two of mine they did.

What I did to fix them was to drill out a small 3-4mm hole on each side of the switch were the nipple is. I then put a small drop of superglue in the hole and screwed a stainless screw that was a little bigger than the hole in. Then I cut the head of the screw at the required length for assembly and left the whole lot overnight to set. The next day I re-assembled the switch and voila 993 window switches with stainless pivot points. Never had a problem with them since.

Good ole Kiwi enginuity

I can take some pics if anyone needs them.

Hope this was helpful and relevant to your problem.

Cheers. NZ 9ELVEN.

These switches are most likely EXACTLY the same inside and would break just as readily. It appears that just the toggle has been replaced for an aluminum one for the 'interior cosmetic conscious'! Willing to bet cash!!!!! (shame I've got none to bet WITH!)

If NZ has a DIY way to reinforce the spring housings then that would be worth $189!

Sorry to bring back this old thread. Broke the driver side switch last year, and broke the same one again this morning. Cost of a new switch here in the dealer is $40.00 Canadian dollars. Anyone know better place to order? Thanks.

Hi guys.

I was going to pull apart my broken window switch this weekend and do a DIY with pics for you but have been crook all weekend. I will get it done during the week and post it up. My DIY only fixes the pivot points which are plastic and in my experience are the only part of the switch that I've had trouble with.

Cheers. NZ 9ELVEN

NZ 9ELVEN- Thanks. That will be a very helpful DIY. Just bought 2 more switches yesterday to have as back-up. Of the 10 or so that have broken for me over the last 2 years the pivot points are were each broke. Thanks agian. It's good to know I'm not the only one with this problem.
