I have a 98 C2S as well, never experienced a rattling noise. Sure it's not another belt? And yes, you should still be using 15W50 Mobil 1.

try removing the fan belt sensor (its the roller that rides on the fan belt down near the distributor). these bearings have been know to dry out and make all kinds of noise..

I have not heard of many (any) 993 chain/tensioner problems..

Thanks, yes I have already removed and replaced the belt sensor. The noise is more like a grinding when I accelerate, it literally sounds like the engine is clanking. any ideas?

Could it be from the gearbox? If so, flywheel problem?

If it is engine, take it to a good shop.

Positive vibes being sent.

At what RPMs does the noise occur?

It is an engine problem...my concern is I let a mechanic listen to it and he said it was a chain tensioner problem...but I have found that it is very unusual for a 993 to have this problem. I am thinking lifters...

The noise will start above 2000 rpm.
