Default Does anybody have the 993 airbag disabling system they do not want or need anymore??

I have a convertiable which makes it a Bit@h to get my four year old in the back and I know he would love to ride up front. Frankly I 'd love to have him up there so I can hear what the hell he's saying when the top is down on the highway!!

Anyway, if anybody has one they do not want anymore I'd be happy to pay for it, pay shipping, whatever... what do these things cost new anyway?

Thanks guys.
Robert

Porsche has special resistor to connect instead of airbag.

Robert,
I bought my seat at Suncoast. I think it was around $250 and install was done my a local dealer under "warranty".

Robert,
The factory deactivation kit does not work for '95 and '96 model years. Easiest solution is going with an aftermarket switch. I had luck with www.airbagonoff.com, they seem to have a pretty big network of installers.

Thanks guys, I did not know the kit would not work on a 1996. I'll check out that web site slc, thanks.

Actually the easiest solution is to unplug the airbags from the control unit. If I remember correctly it is at about midpoint under the dash.

Given that your 4 year old will be sitting in the front seat, I would recommend you do it right. Submit the DOT form and have someone install the switch professionally. Check the threads under "airbag". I submitted an extensive write up on the subject about a year ago. I concur with slc. My experience with wwww.airbagonoff.com was great. No affiliation, .....

Thank you Frank, and everybody. As everyone would expect, my four year old is MUCH more important to me than the car (duh) so I definitely want to do it right. I simply thought this kit (whatever it is) was something you could just install and uninstall in your car. Since it does not fit a 1996 MY I guess it does not matter.

I'll do a search under airbag and see what you wrote up a year ago, as well as check out the site.

Thanks,
Robert

The link above doesn't work due to the , at the end. I just spoke to these guys. The switch costs around $160. Installation costs around $80 and takes about 1 hour. The guy would drive to my house to install as well.

For those who have had this done on their cars, where did you locate the switch? I've seen some posts where switch was put in glovebox. Any other good locations?

Default Switch Location

I recently installed the switch from airbagonoff.com and it turned out great!!! I removed the circuitry/switch from the protective plastic box, thoroughly wrapped in in shrink wrap, and placed it in the center/floor console behind one of the blanks (similar to a stealth garage door opener install). I reshaped a blank cover from a 944, drilled it for the key slot and indicator light... and it works perfectly! Very stealth.

I had it installed inside of the glove box (left side so I can reach it). Fits perfectly as long as you remove the key.

Can I get some pictures posted? I'm sure on this board there have been some clever installs.

I'll try to take them this weekend (think I said that before). But this time I really promise. Maybe I can get my new red seatbelts in the picture too.

Thanks again for the input. It sounds like the switch is the way to go.
