Cabriolet problem, need advice!
I have a 1992 964 Cabriolet. Yes, I know this is not the 964 forum, but haven't received a response on the 964 forum about my problem. I believe the 964 and 993 top are similar if not the same (mechanically, that is). Let me start from the beginning.
When I bought the car (2 months ago), the old owner said he disabled the convertible top by loosening the two large bolts that connects the gears to the top. I opened the rear quarter panel up and the bolts were loose. I tightened them, but the top only went up 1/4 of the way up and made a clicking sound (gears slipping). With that sound in mind I took the assembly apart. I found the gears were not aligned. So after aligning the gears and putting everything back together the top worked.
The only other problem left is that the top does not lock. The locks worked intermittently before the tear down. Now the locks do not respond. Is there a sensor that I could of unplugged or broke by accident? I do not have a manual or map of the convertible system. If anyone had the same or similar problem, please let me know. This top is driving me crazy. I'll almost ready to take it the dealer, not!

Mak,
I haven't had any cab top problems so I can't offer any advice. I will send you some pages off-forum of the top mechanism which may be of some help.
Good luck.

You should search the 993 archives for info on cabrio top problems. It sounds like you are having problems with the micro-switches in the front of the top where the top meets the windshield. Or, it could also be a matter of adjusting the rear micro-switches so that the top will come far enough forward to activate the front micro-switches.
Much better descriptions than I could give are in the archives.
Good luck.

My understanding is that the micro-switches in the back "speak to" the front locks. The rear micros may need adjusting so that they activate the front locks. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Thanks for the suggestions. It was the mis-alignment of the front switches. I believe its cause by the rear being mis-aligned. I’ll look tomorrow and see were I could adjust the top rear. I keep you posted.
