I wonder if the subsequent boxster replacement will be based on the 997 ' s front end.
I suspect it will 'look' different (to avoid annoying 997 owners), but will it be the same underneath upto the A pillers.
I'd bet it will be the same , but look cosmetically different.
Any thoughts.

This is supposedly the new Boxster (987) :
I think it looks great in the above picture. The slightly more blunt and much deeper front bumper makes for a more muscular appearance than the old pointy, weak chinned front end.
The headlights work very well, with a definite tie to the Carrera GT.

i don't think the Boxster will be easily confused with the Carrera GT ![Stick Out Tongue](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
just enough of a family resemblance for brand identity.

To me its seems that with out the historical design constraints of a previous model - Porsche is tending towards faired in lights as in the Carrera GT and the Boxster as posted above.
Other car makers are also doing so eg Scaglieti, DB9 and this seem to be in vogue at persent.
That indicates to me that the 997 lights are an attempt to recreate a link to the older 911's and in particular the 993.
To me this is an example of Porsche hanging on to the 911 and squeezing every ounce from the legend that it can.
IMHO they should let it go. The car has obviously moved on for better or worse depending on your particular bias. Porsche should have to ***** to give the car a new name.
Tito.

That new boxster picture does not look significantly different than a current boxster with a GT3 bumper on it. I think the Boxster S with a GT3 bumper on it looks very good compared to the regular boxster bumper.

If that is what the new Boxster will look like, it's a move up....As far as the Boxster looking more and more like the more expensive models, and Porsche learning it's lesson, I think they did. They sold more cars than any other time in their history. Not to mention they've done it before with the C4S and now the 40th anniversary model. It's nothing new, Porsche is just saving $$ and putting more money in their pockets knowing we will complain but will vote with our $$.
