the 993 swimmingpool
Hi,
A quick question, any DIY availabla re. removing the rear carpets and seats??
A had a lot of water in the rear and front foot-tubs... got it all to dry, but I still get al lot of water/fog (dunno how to say this in english, sorry
on my rear window (and only there..)
So I assume there is stil standing water underneat the rear seats... and the water must be comming in from the rear window (I hope...)
Any advice from fellow 993-swimmers??
thanks a lot!

Use the search function to search the threads...there a number of posts discussing this.
My understanding is that there a number of ways for the water to get in: (i) rear window; (ii) top, if a convertible and cloth has lost some of its water-repellency; and (iii) openings in the floorboard that were not properly sealed. Depending on whether the water got in while the car was moving or stationary, you may be able to narrow the culprit.
As far as removing the rear seats, the lower portion is held on by adhesive, and the carpet is as well AFAIK...not sure about the rear seatbacks bolt on though.
Also check your ECU to make sure it is dry before you start the car - a fried ECU would not be cheap.
Good luck.

thanks David..
I searched the archives already (als a good rennlist visitor this is S.O.P
I think I narrowed the problem down to the rear window... just want to find a way to get the water thats already there out of it....
But if the carpet is glued, this will not be easy, removing it without breaking it...

Just had exactly the same problem. Turns out it was the rear passenger window seals (a common problem apprently). Had them sorted out by my dealer and no more water ingress. As for the current swimming pool, remove the floor mats and get the hairdryer out!

Yep,
I removed everything on the floors (back and front) an dried everything thoroughly…
I suspect that the water comes from either the rear or the sides
Now, I noticed that my driver-side seatbelt was wet one day…
So something must be fishy down there
Dunno how to proceed now, does anybody think I can get away with DIY or is this really to complicated?
In the case of the side pass. Windows, would replacing the seal do the trick??
Thanks,
l

FYI,
Since removing the carpets etc. is a real PITA, after you've sealed the rear window (if that's the cause for the leak), try contact one of paint shops around your area and ask when they have couple of days when they don't have anything in their 'oven' (where they dry cars after paint) and let your car sit there in a very warm temperature for couple of days everything (windows, doors etc.) open.
I don't know how much they'd charge for this (it can't be that much) but sure beats removing the carpets etc. and should result a very dry car.
Unless you're nut like me (I'm thinking of removing & putting RS carpets even though I have no water problems)
