Fold down rear seats in 993
OK seems my original post was littered with personal communications, so let's try again.
Currently in my Cabrio, I have fixed rear seat backs. Other than the "rear seat delete" option, is there a setup for the 993 where the rear seat backs can fold down to make a parcel shelf? If not, does anyone have an idea if an earlier model 911 seat (similiar to the ones in my old 86 cabrio) can be fit into a 97?

Do all you coupe owners have the folding rear seats? Any cab owners have anything other than the fixed seats (or the rear seat delete)?
I have seen many fixed rear seatbacks being sold on ebay.

The most likley reason for the fixed seats in the cab to for a mounting point for the shoulder belt. I assume the shoulder belt on Coupes is agaionst the outside of the car, where on the cab, its the center.
My old 86 had the folding seats, and only a lap belt. I am wondering if I can get this setup to fit in the 993. Is there any legel reason to have a shoulder belt in the rears?

My '90 964 Cab has folding seats so there is no problem with the pivot points. Do the 993 Cabs have 3 point belts in the rear? If so then I think that could be the issue. With a folding seat back where would the upper belt mount point be?

My 1994 993 (european spec) has fold down rear seats; my 1998 U.S. spec 993 does not - it has the fixed rear seats. I am guessing that these were required in the US for mandated 3 pt rear seatbelts (where the mounting pt is inboard as opposed to outboard for the coupes), which may not have been required for non-US cars. (can anyone confirm?)
The fold down seat looks very similar to the rear seat in my friend 993TT.
For my '98 I am thinking of either getting a Techart "box", a used rear seat delete kit, try to source and fit a Euro rear seat, or perhaps see if the rear seats from a US 993 coupe can be made to fit. Has anyone tried to do either of the last two options??

'97 C4S with fold down rear seats. I always have them folded down as a shelf. Don't like to remind myself I am driving a four passenger sedan!!! <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

The confusion on this and the previous thread on the same topic as that this issue is w/r to cabs only....
Just to clarify: both my 94 and 98 are cabs.
The issue of fold down vs. fixed rear seats applies ONLY to 993 cabs - to my knowledge all coupes (incl 4S, 2S and TT) came with fold down rear seats.
