Question Mirrors offset?

Hmmm... During my normal routine of wiping the car down before I go to bed, I noticed something I thought was a little odd; the left and right side rearview mirrors are not 'mirror' images (pardon the pun) of each other. In other words, the driver's side mirror is roughly 2-3 inches further forward than the passenger side mirror and not in exactly the same place on either side.

In all my years of wiping down vehicles, I have never, ever noticed a difference like this before. It's quite dark outside right now, otherwise I would check my other cars to see if it's commonplace or not.

Is this particular to the 993 series (or other cars/trucks for that matter) or have I uncovered a deep, dark secret about my own car?

I did a search but couldn't find anything relating to this.

Has anyone else ever noticed this as well?

Cheers,

WM6

sit in your passenger seat and pretend you are driving. look (or try to look) in the mirrors. your question will be answered.

Been there, noticed that.... It is kind of odd the first time you figure it out though.

Your car is broken!!!!! Quick, I'll take it off your hands for a low price.

There's nothing wrong with you. The mirrors are offset. The reasoning I'll leave to the more knowledgable on the board to answer.

The answer is quarterlights. If the drivers side mirror was positioned where the passangers side mirror is on the door you would have a black steel bar interupting the visibility!

Interestingly its the opposite on RHD cars so car covers are different if they are the fitted kind...
