Default PCA fun run, and you're the only one ...

...the only one with an aircooled Porsche! Heck, not even a 996 or 997 in a large get-together with three run groups ...everyone was driving new hardware!

Great drive through the canyons of SoCal, and fabulous dinner with a bunch of great folks, btw! Just thought I'd share that our 993s are what, dinosaurs to many Porsche owners?!! Funny to me. ...just thought I'd share! Happy Labor Day and long weekend to you all!

They might be dinosaurs, but they sure were fun in a different way. Sort of like, whatever the driver did, the cat did. No nannies (computers) to make it happen. Just different. I'm sorry I sold my 930.

YMMV

One of the best parts of the older cars is how uncommon they are to see on the road. Enjoy it and the unique experience it offers you!

Happy Labor Day to you too!

+1

And much more immediate common ground when you run into another one. I always flash/wave to other aircooled 911s when I am in my 993 but very rarely in my newer cars (I would if I run into another 991 touring or 997 RS if in one of those cars though).

Well, if you waved to all the Macans on the road you might never stop. Not that I see a lot, but wave to most Porsche coupes ( even 914, 944's) , the Cayman guy last weekend didn't even look my way.

I always wave to older Porsches! Big props to folks still ripping it up in 944s and 914s! And yeah, Cayman or whatever, these guys don't even see me, which is hilarious given I'm a GuardsRed beacon on the road ...they must be checking their infotainment, LOL!

Enjoy the classic that is our aircooled beasts, all!

But

I’m experiencing the same on the east coast. Our region’s 993s rarely attend Fun Runs or DEs. I’m typically the only 993 participating and asked to lead the “vintage” run group, even though I know our membership includes 993s.

Don’t be so harsh on Macans. We bought one as a daily driver stablemate to the 993. I can tell you it’s a real Porsche.

I went to a Cars & Coffee in VT back over July 4th weekend. There was a rally drive before-hand, and I was one of only two air-cooled going along with newer Targa GTS, GT4, and 2 GT3s (along with several other non -Porsches). I was about 3rd or 4th in the lineup and one of the guys was like "make sure you can keep up". We ripped up the back roads that were thankfully near-empty at 8am on a Sunday, and it was a blast! I had no trouble what-so-ever keeping up the GT3s through the curves, they'd only pull away on the straightaways. The adrenaline of friendly competition also made me throw caution to the wind and push the new supercharger kit to the limit for the first time - we survived and she ran great!

I watch newer Porsches and if they wave, I wave. I don’t initiate waves on newer 911models here in the Bay Area. Completely ignore the suvs. Older ones always. Just how I roll.

I drive my car a few times a week to the cafe.

Almost always see at least one another air-cooled car there.

I did the PEC Los Angeles track experience (where you drive your own car) and my car was the oldest car there by at least 12 years...but the instructors loved that I brought it.??

Did a rally with my local Porsche club, me and another member were the only aircooled cars (both 993s). Most of the cars were 992s , 991s and 718s.
I always wave to older Porsches and initiate it when I can. People in newer cars 992 and 991 seem to wave back less.
Was ripping in the mountains with my 991.1 Targa GTS last summer and waved to a 997.2 GT3, he waved back.

I keep my 993 at our second home near the blue ridge parkway. I always wave to old 356s and other air cooled cars. I recently caught up with a new one. White. I followed it into town and pulled next to him at the light. Was back near his drivers blind spot. He had his window open. I know for sure he had to see me while I was behind him and surely he heard me as I have phase 2 exhaust. Even people on the street were looking at both cars. But this dude in the new 911 wouldn’t even look over and wave. Almost eye to eye. WTF. Whatever. I swear if I add to the collection and get a new one, I won’t be THAT guy.

Patience young Jedi. Many are unlearned in the ways of the aircooled. Learn through experience they must.
