Default Convertible top latch motor stopped moving | help!

My drivers side latch motor suddenly stopped working. The passenger works flawlessly - top goes up no problem - won’t go down bc it thinks it never closed I assume due to left latch motor.

what sensors can I check as I suspect it’s those and not the motor. Where are they located and easiest way to test them?

Finally, if one is not working - possible to get replacements or somehow temp fix up operate?

You can manually release the latch and test the latches. The manual release procedure is in the manual, and there are many posts/threads detailing it. Once the top is released, put tape over the microswitch on the top and confirm it's the latch. This helped me.

The Cabrio Control Unit is known for solder failures on the output pins. I would start with checking this.
Failures in the lock motor gears are also commonly seen. Spare parts are available several places, one of them is here: https://partworks.de/partworks/en/78...locking-system
Cheers,
Tore

To all, when taping up the microswitches at the top, from open position, the top will go to close, the right (passenger side) latch motor will engage and the drivers side one does nothing - there is no sound or clicking coming from it - nothing even attempts to rotate. As I have been told, its atypical that the motor is actually bad and its just not working. So this leads me to believe some kind of sensor is unhappy. How can I over ride a microswitch to test it as that may be the culprit.

From the article:

"locking motors must each send a non-grounded signal (SL/SR) to
the ECU at the completion of a lock or an unlock cycle,"

Maybe this is the culprit. This happened at the time of close and the motor never engaged and never did again after that (drivers side).

Most likely the cab top ECU is bad! Consider sending it for testing. We've been repairing these for over 25 yrs.

Sure thing, I have a feeling its related to wiring more than it is related to the ECU going bad. Will test on the wiring side and have a new rebuilt motor here as well just in case.

Tried many things, still stuck. Anyone have a shop in Chicago or nearby that has experience with this?

Have you tested the cab top ECU? It's really very simple. Here's a very basic descriptive image;

By watching the relays as the top switch is depressed, one can analyze the system's functionality.
The two right relays activate the locking motors when in the lock/unlock mode. The center relay powers the rear motor.
The two left relays determine the polarity of 12V to the three motors. It's that simple!
