help....
Here's the problem-- paid $300.00 for PPI at Champion in Jacksonville, Florida. Seemed high, but wanted a unbiased set of eyes on it. Also had it taken to Seller's mechanic (Mossport Automotive) to check it out-and fix some minor problems which had been identified.
Flew down and had the time of my life blazing her across country.
I get the car to Alaska and take it to my trusty mechanic. We immediately notice a fair sized oil leak. Didn't seem to be loosing much on the way across the country.....but pretty obvious to anyone who actually looks. Oil is leaking from cylinder base gasket.
Have searched posts... Is a head retorque likely to help? Thoughts? I'll keep driving it, but am just bummed and would like to fix it if cost-benefit analysis makes any sense.
Otherwise the car exceeds my expectations...
Will post some pictures soon.
Glad to be a member of such a cool group of folks...

You actually drove the car from Florida to Alaska? ..on those nasty gravel roads? ...and avoided a cracked windshield or other rock chip damage?
...we did the chicago -Alaska drive 2 years ago in an Infiniti G20 sedan and had to replace a headlamp and got lots of nasty pits in the windshield.. and I also ended up repainting the hood after all the truck encounters passing the other way
*(or have they done more paving since then?)
If oil is leaking from the cylinder base, I wouldn't bother fixing it if it were just a dribble. Of course only you can determine what's a "tolerable" leak, but from what I've been told, this is fairly common, especially among higher-mileage cars, and is not remedied with simply retorquing. I'd clean up the area and make sure it's really from the cylinder base as the valve covers are most often the culprit of oil leaks.

rocker covers not leaking. i cleaned up the oil really well, went for a 10 minute drive and you could oil seeping from the lower gasket at the cylinder base. have read that this is a metal gasket.
Anyone retorqued their heads?
Thanks...
