Post Becker CDR 210 HELP????

Is the Becker CDR 210 unit that came with the Hi-Fi Sound option on a '98 C2S the same unit that was used in the '98 Boxster....Is it a simple plug in operation to swap units

The PPI revealed one small flaw with the unit in the 993 that is to be shipped next week...have not seen the 993, but may have a chance to buy a turnkey sytem cheap out from a Boxster owner...as with everything have to move quickly

TIA <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Yes, assuming they are both CDR-210's, they should have the same plugs and would work in your 993. Just be sure you have the code handy when you replace the radio with the new one.

Thanks Viken

I don't have the Vin# print out here...was there any other unit, i.e. single play CD/radio unit used in in late '98 993s....The service tech told me it was a becker unit....and price to replace was like $1400.00?????....absolutely absurd

I can get the Boxster unit for less than 10 % of that....

Again thanks

Berkley,

As far as I know, the Becker unit in the Boxster was a CDR-220 which also interchangeable with the CDR-210. Also, if you want a CDR-210, you might be able to pick one up from an car audio store which may have some take-offs on hand for a lot less than $1400.

Jeff,

I don't think the Blaupunkt CD changer works with the Becker but I am not 100% certain.

Becker/Porsche harness is only about $10 from becker. May need an addtional one if running an pre-amp. There is also a cable to allow the older generation Becker(early 993) to Alpine CD changers. The newer Beckers can run w/ Sony CD changers, but I hear you may lose some features(automatic speed sound/phone mute ect.) You can also of course run an FM modulated Cd changer. I have never heard of being able to control a Blaupunkt form the Cr210. The boxter radio looks a bit updated. And then there is the Becker w/single CD. You can buy the Becker/Porsche w/ cassette from early 993 all day long on Ebay for under $150 in Excellent shape. The single CD becker runs a bit more. And Many also the sell the head unit and changer for about $350-$450. I wouldn't recommend going new. Same DIN so should be an even swap out. BTW If this is the single CD becker you found for a great deal and you don't want it let me know. Check the FAQ above

Following up on Viken's suggestion, I found a shop that will sell a new takeout unit (CDR 220) for $400.00....there is a waiting list and may take a month or more

Also, they will take the CDR 210 out of the 993 in exchange for a new off the shelf unit for the same price....can ship tomorrow and be installed by the dealer prior to my getting my hands on the 993, which may be two more weeks due to transport availability with InterCity

If the wire transfer arrives tomorrow, the Millennium will be shipped to its new owner on Wed., mixed emotions as the Millennium is a wonderful touring car with great creature comforts

Is the market price for a CDR 220 in the $400.00 range? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I have seen these go for $300 to $500. I'd say $400 is a fair price.

An afterthought:

I'm in need of a CDR-210 manual. If anyone has one that needs a suitable home, I'd like to acquire it. Maybe, finally, I can master this radio, although, I admit, the engine makes sweeter music, to my ears.

My car came with the CD-210, I bought the CDR-210 on ebay for 280.00, and sold the CD-210 for 90.00.
Becker will sell you a unit for about 400.00, and the unit was listed on niello porsche web site for about 950.00.

I am also looking for a CDR-210 manual.

Only down side is my CDR-210 won't play burned CD's. The PO of the unit I bought claimed the radio came from a 94 964, so it may be a different unit from the 97 units ( )

My CDR-210 plays burned CDs without a problem.

If you are using RW CDs most older CD players (including the CDR-210) can't read it so be sure you are using Read only (CD-R) CDs.

Also, be sure you are burning them in the right format for normal CD players.

Mark and JHB

For a downloadable Operations Manual in PDF format go to <a href="http://www.beckerautosound.com/" target="_blank">"Becker Of NA"</a> then click on WHATS NEW then a little ways down this page you will see a blue box that allows you to pick the unit you are interested in. You maybe able to order a manual from these guys. Also keep an eye on eBay I found a manual for my CD-210 for $10.

JHB I have been working eBay for a CDR210 for $250 max. It's guys like you who are keeping me from my dreams <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" />

GOOD LUCK!

cfdarch: Thanks for the info, never occured to me to download it!

Sorry for the outbid, I actually got lucky, a few radios before and a few after all want for over 300.00 (some for almost 400.00), It really depends on how many are interested. I was pleasently surprised about the price I ended up getting.
