Default Front License Plate Bracket?

I just registered my C4S after driving it in from out of state.

Here, in the Lone Star State, they make us use front plates. No problem mounting the rear plate but the front attachment points are wider than the holes on the license plate. Obviously there is some kind of front license plate bracket.

Should I just purchase from the dealer or there some better alternative?

John - I'm quite sure I've got one sitting in my toolblx somewhere; send me a PM with your address and you can have it just for the shipping cost.

What's a front license plate? I've heard rumors that they're required here in Ohio, but the Porsche will have none of that. She'd rather be naked up front...

It's required here in Maryland but I've never bolted it on. Spoils the sublime smoothness of the front end too much.

I agree 100% it doesn't look as good, but I don't want to give them a reason to pull me over. When I registered the car today the clerk emphasized front plates are required.

John,

I've had mine for over 4.5 years in a state where front plates are required. My car will NEVER have one mounted.

When I bought the car the dealership even told me not to mount it and tell a cop (If you get pulled) that the brackets are on back order and you are waiting for one.

I got pulled for this reason once and the cop was getting ready to write me a ticket when I told him it is under the passenger mat. He argued and said he didn't want to see it, I pulled it out anyway and he left me alone. NOW, if I get pulled, I will immediately pull it out and put it between the glass and the dash, so he can see it when he does the inspection.

DON'T DO IT! DON'T DEFACE THE BEAUTIFUL FRONT OF YOUR CAR!

Enjoy,

-Skip

John

I agree with Skip. Leave it off. If the trooper is a good guy, it gives the him something else to give you a ticket for, besides speeding. You were speeding, weren't you?

NYS require front plates and I've NEVER had them on any of my cars. In twenty years I've been stopped exactly once for "no front plate" as the only reason. Many times the officer has been a good egg and just given me a ticket for the plate instead of the speed.

Mike,

If the speeding comment was meant for me, I wasn't really speeding only 8 or so over. He had just got finished with an M3 on the side of the road when I went by. I think he was just harassing folks that early Saturday morning.

we are supposed to have front plates in Illinois too...

...and I used to have my front plate mounted...

I have vanity plates on my 993... once it got stolen.. (the whole thing was torn off, bracket and all)... I bought a new bracket and had to pay for a replacement plate but it fell off during a DE (apparently the guy who stole my front plate with bracket and all managed to stretch the square holes so much that even bumper plugs fall out now

...anyway, I've now been without a front plate mounted for about 3 years...

Skip,

No, the speeding comment was for John. But was it 8 mph over or 80 mph over??

Mike,
With that bumper of yours you can't mount the plate if you wanted to. Looks very smooth with the holes filled. Nice!

In 23 years of driving, I have never had a front license plate on any vehicle in California where it is required. I've gotten 2 tickets. One while on a business trip with my parked car at LAX getting one and recently driving along the 10 freeway at 50mph in my Navigator.

I put the plate on and went to the CHP to get it signed off. While the CHP was looking out the window at my car, he was going to write me up for tinted windows! Luckily there were not tinted but just looked dark.
