Question ALMS race @ RFK

Will anyone be there?

Should be interesting with privateer M3 GTRs back in the picture.

Thumbs up

Watched the qualifying today. Very tight track. 60 seconds for the LMP900s to lap it. Runoff room is scarce. Great seeing the GT3RS cars up close and personal. Kevin and the TRG team were signing autographs in the paddock area.

John, it was hot today. I looked like I suffered 3rd degree burns on my face. Wear a hat or bring sunscreen. It was all worth it. The sound of the Tommy Bahama V8 Corvette come roaring past is something I won't soon forget.

Bill, I snapped some digital photos. These (digital) cameras are terrible for action sports photography. Way too slow to capture the cars going by. I have a few of the TRG and Orbit Porsches, the Ferrari 550 and some others in qualifying. I'm taking a Nikon 8008 tomorrow for the race. I'll have the photos put on a CD.

Can agree to a degree. Digital viewfinders are my biggest complaint, esp. on an overcast/low light day. Also, viewfinder blackout when you press the shutter is a major PITA (am using a Sony DSCF707). Howver, I think some of the delays between when you press the shutter button and picture is taken is common to most auto focus/auto aperture cameras, incl. film. When I use shutter priority and manually prefocus, delay is reasonable.

"Pre-focusing" accomplished by leaving focus in auto, aiming camera at approx. point wher I want car to be when I shoot, press shutter partially down, then while holding the shutter button down I switch to manual focus. Works pretty well. To eliminate more delays, I manually set aperture too (use above shutter partially closed method above to find aperture at point where I would like to shoot, remember it, then switch camera to total manual and insert this aperture in the manual setting.

With more and more practive/playing, I've gotten to like the Sony more and more. Have no desire to go back film. Just some thoughts.

Sample of about 60 pictures I took this weekend at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix with this camera.
