Post where can i get a BMC or K&n airfilter?

Im looking for a better performing airfilter than oem. Im not sure where they sell BMC filters. Im in LA california. From the searches on the archives, i noticed that K&N is no longer making them for the 993?

thanks!

Supposedly K&N is back in businesss making air filters for the 993. I got my BMC filter from Hergesheimer in Lake Forest, CA. Also, you can get the complete BMC set up from AJ USA in San Diego, including the cleaner and oil you will need when it is time to clean the unit. Don't expect miracles from an air filter change. The boys at Stuttgart have it pretty will figured out re. CFM of air and induction noise.

Performance Products sells PowerFlow kits. Thats one step further from upgraded OEM filters. It's replaceing original air box and changes intake note to more agressive. Some people kikes, some doesn't.

In just what way do you you think a "free flow" filter is "better?"

If you search the archives you'll find a number of threads discussing free flow filters from BMC, K&N, etc. I've yet to hear of objective test data supporting any of the frequently claimed power gains. Paper filters do a better job of filtering out unwanted material which, of course, is why there is a filter. After 50k+ miles with a K&N on my Volvo w/o any gains per my G-Tech, I went back to paper. I'll stay w/oem paper on the 993.

BTW, any Rennlist member want a used K&N for a Volvo 850T?

I have heard similar report suggesting paper filters are better at filtering. "performance filters" have not been shown to produce any power gain that I know of. I did have a BMC filter but didn't notice any difference at all in normal driving.
I suppose "free flow filter" will only give "extra" air when throttle is wide open. Anyway, I'm not sure "free flow" is what you want when you're trying to filter the air.....
It looks good tho' when you can see the filter....

Is there a difference in the filter used if you have the Motorsound option?

I recall a study done by one of the automotive magazines a few years ago that found no performance gains with these aftermarket filters.

Think about it another way. Putting real issues like decreased engine longevity aside, why would Porsche design a wonderful engine for a wonderful sports car, only to choke it at the front end by using some poorly flowing, inferior paper filter substance? Doesn't make any sense to me.

As Flavor Flav once suggested, don't believe the hype.
