Default New Porsche 997- Beautiful!

Goto porsche.com and look at the quick film of the new 997 it is definately 993 looking with hints of 996 in the back. I can't wait until this car comes out it will be next on the list. I kicked around the idea of buying a 993 again but I think I will wait it out. I would still like to stay with the 993 Forum though .

You can't win I used to have a 98 Vette and everyone would say "Yeah but the interior sucks" Now I'm going to buy a 997 and the interior is too nice. LMAO. I'll take the "SUV" interior with the clock and navagation and all the other "SUV" looking things. Not to say I didn't like the raw racecar feel and look of my 993 but it could have had some improvements. To each his own just like everything else.

I dont think he said it was nice, he said it left alot to be desired.
If you like then you're in great shape. Its just the overwhelming
opinion (OPINION being the key word here)here is that it looks cheap
and much like a new Hundai or somthing. But hey those guys would
not be driving your car, so only your opinion matters.
IF you do get one lets have some PICS!!

GTR,

I also think they are going in the right direction with the 997, but there is no way I can get beyond the interior. I don't really like it at all, but to each his own.

Good luck and we will look forward to a detailed impressions write up with pictures.

I like the interior MUCH better than a 996. Get rid of the steering wheel, VW shifter, and delete that clock and it will be set. In contrast, the main issue I have with a 996 is how quiet it is... outside and in. If I had one, I'd pull some sound deadening and throw on some straight pipes. Yeah, that would be solid on a 997.

You'd trade it for the 355 HP 3.8l 997 Carrera S w/standard techno goodies like PSAM adjustable shocks ("sport" or "normal" setting & automated 10mm ride height drop). If my 993 weren't finally just how I want it (for the moment), I could be tempted.

That clock flips over, so you don't have to look at it. It's also some sort of "track clock", so you know that it's not going to be legal in the no-fun USA.

As to the interior, I like it except for the "brightwork", which looks too much like a Nissan or other Japanese car to me. I hope that they offer different materials, and not just fake carbon fiber or wood. If you've seen some of the darker gray metallic finishes in some Audis, that might look good. In fact, the whole thing in black would suit me just fine, with only a bit of brightwork for trim.

IIRC, the timer is optional, so that's one less thing to fix...

The latest issue of Car and Driver contains an article on the 997 Porsche.
They call it a retro design with stong overtones of the "Classic 993" , the last air-cooled Porsche. They mention the obvious headlight design and wider hips. Worth a quick browse at the stand.

I picked up a brochure from a dealer today and I am also intrigued by the exterior. Only time will tell but it has potential.

By the way, the sales guys were drooling over my 993! In fact, they had a 993C4S that they just purchased. It was black/black.

flat6 has some really nice pictures of the 997 also. Dan I would be squeezing my budget a little on the "S" but it would definately be nice. I have a little time left so if the Bonus is good this year I may be able to somehow talk the "boss" aka my wife into the "S". Fingers are crossed.
