Default OT: Wire or Cashiers check

Ok folks, there is a very interested buyer for my car :-(. I 've never sold a car before and the buyer is in Arkasas. Is wiring the money safer than cashiers check? What would you guys do?

Oh my the end is near...no more 993 for me. I can't believe it!

Wire. I once had a $10K cashiers check in my hands. Spilled some coffee on it and the ink ran. Drawn on the "Bank of Lagos" in NYC.

Wire for sure - bank to bank transfers keep YOU out of the loop and thus, limits your liability. Once you see you acct credited, you know FOR SURE the funds have cleared. If something fishy arises after the fact, you bank is on the hook, not you. Insist on a wire.

I like wiring funds. If his bank wires in the morning your bank should have funds by early afternoon. I assume the buyer is not coming in to pick up the car but rather is having it shipped?

Keith,

Wire transfer as everyone says. A stop payment can be placed on a "bank check".

Talking Good luck Keith...

Sounds like you're a guy who puts first things first. Good for you.Everyone here respects that I'm sure. But rememebr that for making the supreme sacrifice of the 993, it is appropriate to remind your spouse that the next P-car (when it comes around to your turn again, and it will)...is the TT. Loaded with mods, etc...

She'll agree to it now thinking you'll never remember, BUT...

Who of us could ever forget that right!

Cheers from S.C. and how about buy a Shelby Cobra clone in the interim just so we can hear about it.

P.S. Use the wire, let the bank(s) worry what's good or not.

if he is shipping then wiring is definitely the way to go. One less thing you need to worry about during the transaction. The way I did it was: 1) wrote up a sales contract for the transaction - which included mileage, PPI condition, etc..- that we both signed (me in Ohio; him in Oregon); 2) wired him funds; 3) he overnighted notarized title; 4) car set in his garage until pick up by Intercity. Obviously, others will have different (and probably better) methods for doing this.

Wire it like the others say. When I bought my car in CA I wired the funds even though I was there for the transaction. Cost me $20 and there were absolutly no issues, it took an hour and 10 minutes for the bank to show the deposit in his account. We signed papers and I was on the way back to Seattle.

KeithR3, I know the pain you are feeling as I am going through withdrawl myself. However, I am having fun looking for the next P-car, and I know a hell of a lot more about 993's than I did when I bought my first one, which I am sure will help (even though I was very lucky with my first one).

Keith...

Is you car going to Arkansas? Where in R CAN SAW?

Sorry you had to let it go but I'm sure you'll have another one sooner than you think.

JoAnne

PS: The guys are right. Wire transfer the only way to go.
