Default Power Steering Flush

Is there a writup or DIY for changing the power steering fluid ?? I've done quite a few searches and can't come up with anything. Do you have to disconnect the hydraulic line going into the rack or can it all be done at the resevoir at the rear ??

Yeah - I read that thread already, Kim, thanks...I was just wondering if there was a factory specified way to dump the fluid instead of the makeshift turkey baster method. Guess that'll have to do for now

ag-

the service manual I have says nothing about how to flush the system... that's why I was asking if anyone knew of a way to do so in that post.

I ended up using the baster method and have done it a total of three times so far(about 3/4 can of Pentosin). Color of the extracted fluid has definitely changed from a dark brown to the green color of Pentosin, so I am assuming the baster method works.

I inadvertantly found a way - wait till it leaks than get a new rack!

Or a ..... Mityvac PneumaticVac - Air Operated Fluid Evacuator, got one on eBay handy for all kinds of fluid removal.

What color is Pentosin CHF 11S?

I ask because when I checked my power steering fluid level which was fine the color of the fluid seemed almost clear.

The workshop manual says it's green, but the fluid in my 97 sure isn't green.

I just replaced the rack on my '95 which formerly used Dexron, switching to Pentosin during the process. It's definitely green, but it appears to be more translucent than the Dexron was.

Amazon has it, although pricey:

So does Lufteknic (under Chemicals - Fluids):

Clear fluid is also in my PS reservoir: ATF generally becomes brown toned ( from deep red) as it ages, and the 11S is green. Does the 11S lose colour as it ages ... or has a mineral based hydraulic fluid like Febi 7.1 found its way into the PS in place of the synthetic11S???

Porsche updated the Pentosin fluid designation a short while back. I think I posted the detail in another thread. The dealer's parts dept. showed it to me when I went to pick up a can.
