Race Car
Oh, and asnwer this question honestly to yourself, do you have the patience to really make it a LONG term project? Because, you will always find that "great" deal that you just have to get right then and there.
For what it costs to take a street car to a competitive race car you should 1 either buy someone elses project, 2. Buy a 993 Cup car, 3. Buy a Euro RSCS.
BTDT...

Don't sink a bunch of money into a car that you will never recoup. Trust me. Trust Greg.
<---- Buy this car!

Ha Ha Ha, where the hell were you guys 2 years ago??? Oh wait I think someone did tell me to buy someone else's race car. Now, 30K later, it is still a freakin' Cab (but damm fast!)
Short story on building your own race car:
Busted knuckles, lots and lots of money, did I mention money, first name basis with your UPS and FexEx driver, checking Euro vs. Dollar for the elusive parts from Germany, power buyer on Ebay, more money.... Should I go on???
I cant believe someone has not bought DJ's car.
DJ, maybe you should send it out to the Midwest,I could drive, er, sell it for you
( there may be too many Porsches in CA.)

Well while I would have loved to get my hands on DJ's car the fact is that track cars are usually expensive to buy. Only now I start seeing cars in the 30's with some mods on like this black car and the white D stock class car on the Rennlist classifieds... While you will sink the money anyway into the car, it will come on your own time and while you can afford it. Having to buy an expensive track car worth over 50K is a financial burden if you want to keep a street 993 as well. So while it would be wise to gain on a ready car in most cases it is very difficult to cough so much cash or have such high monthly payments... I'm the example of this case... got a cheap lengthy loan and the cash/credit go into some mods, thank God for you guys and ebay... This way I can race now and not still dream about it...
So with that said I will offer some of my must hads for the project:
1. Straight chassis, no accidents.
2. sound engine and tranny
3. Search, search, search. PCA classifieds, Rennlist classifieds everything! Actually on the Rennlist classifieds you can fill out a wanted form and that goes to the dealers, brokers affiliated. I got plenty leads for cars that were not even advertised this way!! As a matter of fact my car came through a lead from a broker in Florida...
Finally I agree that these two cars in the 30's would be a good deal! You must figure out about 5-10 grand on mods to make the car D stock class track worthy.
Given the fact that you can get a 993 close to 30grand and add the above mods, then 38K or 39K for ready cars are a GREAT deal...
I have seen upclose the white D stock class car on the Rennlist classifieds, this guy wants to unload the car and he includes the trailer as well on the deal! I wish I would have known a month ago...
The car run last weekend on the same track as I did it looked good and sounded good although I was a bit faster than him
Good luck! Its FUN!!!
When ever you get it, let me know, I can help tinkering with the car it if you like.
Oh, and when you need a fast co-driver (you've seen me at track), I'm available.
