I just got back from test driving a Viper GTS. I think it has 480-500 hp. I expected this to be brutally torquey and quick. Honestly is was quite a bit slower than mine, almost to the point of me making a mistake and saying so in front of the the salesman. i got spooled up to say" WOW this thing is slow", But I managed to get out "WOW this think has alot under the hood."
I could not stand the pedals. the clutch is way over to the left the brake is where you might expect the clutch and the accelertor is where the brake might be. Several times I went to touch the brake and revved the motor. When I got to open it up I was amazed at how long it took to spool up, given the big V8. I did get it up to 110 and it handled the speed with little excitement. Very nice and stable at speed. however at lower handing
speeds I noticed it felt big and heavy and nimble is not a word I would use after a year in my TT. It almost felt like a new truck to me at lower speeds big heavy and stable. I did not feel like I could toss it around.
The cockpit was confined, You think your 993 is small- The Viper made me feel like I was 6'10" And the visibilty was not what i would call excellent. But it was adequate. It would be a fun car to drive for a while, it was speed yellow and got a lot of looks but I can see why people tire of it quickly. The dials were ok But I am used to seeing the tach where I need it.
I am waiting to try a 05 C6 vette next. If you want to do this take your 993 to the Dodge dealer. The salesmen are easily impressed, I mean they are used to selling trucks and are not what I would call Rhoad scholar candidates.
See you all in cambria!!

Steve you bet I will be there --in Cambria tonite actually. Let me know if you want to stay Sat nite. The viper may be competitive with a normal TT but not a ViperBob piece of work including the ECU!!
Oh one thing I REALLY liked about the Viper was the magical decceleration burble. I think thats the American in me. Just sounded sweet!

OG,
V8, V10, whatever. OG, thanks for the road test. You really gave a good description of driving the car. Also, please do post on the C6. Oh, hell, I guess I could just go to the Chevy dealer in the 993 and they'd run out with the keys, no?

It does have a V10, I have known that since they have come out. What I dont know howeve,r is when an OldGuy is going to have a brain fart. Like I did in the earlier post. In fact I asked the salesman if they had received any of the SRT 10 trucks yet that have the same Viper V10. Oh well those brain cells are dying off one beer at a time. At least its the weaker brain cells first according to Darwin!
