Post gert's front protection bar

When you mount this bar, and if/when it hits something, where is the force transmitted? To what part of the car, and is it the correct part to handle the blow?

Thanks. Thinking about ordering one, and a friend asked this question that I could not answer...

BTW, Go Duke!

I agree with Kim. The best advertising for a FPB is to look at the scratches, scrapes on the bar of someone who has one. If they didn't have a bar, those scrapes and scratches would be on the bumper cover. My car is at SUV ride height, and I've got scrapes on my bar....so it's not just for cars at the "correct" height.

OK, so I misinterpreted a bit. I assumed it was set up and mounted to prevent damage from moderate bumps (whatever that means!) - something more than scratches - but it seems, then, like it is for cosmetic protection, not much more?...

by the way, omit the "like" in teh last line of my previous post. I have been talking to my 7-year-old daughter, and it just slipped out! I am teaching her not to speak that way, and here, like, I go... like, oh...

Stedge,
I lowered my car a few weeks back and also threw on Gerts FPB, it has saved the front of my car 3x already. Its the best piece of equipment money can buy.

I would highly recommend it. Installation is a snap.

Surely it's ability to protect the front bumper from scrapes is VERY limited though right? I mean how much does it stick down from under there? Considering the bumper extends past the FPB, not the other way around, it's highly likely that the bumper could hit a driveway or speed bump anyway? Effectively if you lower your car, this absords a small portion of that lowering, thus when it scrapes rather than the underside of your bumper?
But if the angle is too great (between the front wheel(s) and the farthest out and lowest point of your bumper, then it will have no protection capabilities at all. It's no miracle Protection bar (without trying to flame it or the supplier).

Dylan.

Dylan,
you are correct in your assumption. However it does do a pretty good job. I don't think anybody would / could count on it for 100% protection. But for $150 or what ever it is it sure gives you piece of mind that the majority of the bumper scrapes will be absorbed by the FPB.

I actually had another scrape today added to the bar. I will say that so far the FPB has taken all four scrapes and there are no other marks on the front underside or side underside of my car.

The bar actually sticks down about an 1"

Yes, obviously if the angle is to great it would scrape the lower portion of the nose. I don't know about you, but if I see an incline like that I'll certainly avoid it. Not with just my P-car but any car.

That's what my Rangerover is for!!

Try it, you'll like it.

I purchased my TT about 3 months ago, and it had a small crack in the lower part of the bumper cover caused by hitting bumps and/or driveways. The car is at ROW height. I just added a FPB, and it has taken a couple of jolts. I'm actually thinking of repairing that bumper, now that I feel it is safe.

I'm happily scraping away at my recently lowered height until I do get a crack in the bumper, so I can justify purchasing a euro bumper from Gert with an FPB

Ah, that was mainly a joke. To keep some money in the bank, I've decided I've got to wear something out before I replace it . . . I'm not purposefully trying to scrape (I do try to avoid it). Otherwise, I'd be dropping my clutch from 4500 RPMs at every stoplight so I can get a lightweight flywheel/rs clutch, and I'd be yanking my transmission right now to get some $$ for it in exchange for shorter gears. Or, upon reflection, maybe I should sell the whole car now to get some cash to purchase a RUF 993 TurboR

I just sold my FPB because it kinda stood out against my black car. Today, I was pulling in the driveway, and the wife started waving her arms with a disturbed look on her face. I got out and looked, and my front end was about 1/2" at best above the ground. I hope I don't soon regret selling that thing.

Allen,

Have you heard of black epoxy paint??? Roughened up the stainless steel and it will stick. My FPB just showed up on Friday.

I need to back up an incline to park my car at the office. Before the FPB, my car scarped bottom every time. After the FPB, instead of the bumper, the FPB scrapes bottom. Definitely a good investment!

BTW, a friend of mine also installed a FPB on his C4S, but it went over a bump and caught the FPB right now. It resulted in the FPB tearing off and cracking part of the front bumper. Even the FPB has its limitations.
