After getting my first speeding ticket in the last 30 years this week, I have decided it's time to install the radar detector I've had sitting around.
Is it just me or do these cars just not feel like they are going as fast as the freakin radar gun says they are going?!!! Anyway, looking surprised when the cop tells you that you were doing 57 in a 25 doesn't help to keep from getting a ticket.
So, does anyone know of a good location to tap for switched power? Detector will be positioned on the dash directly in front of the driver.
tap into the sunroof power swithc...that way you will have switched power. mount the detector near the rearview mirror and use a remote display. i'm assuming you will be getting a V1.
I was going to suggest Robin's DIY, but the guys beat me. The question everyone wants answered is how you go a speeding ticket? I didn't think there were enough straight-aways in the 50th state to get going fast enough !!
LOL- As it was, he caught me in a turn as he was headed in the opposite direction. By the time I saw him, there he was! He came to a screeching halt, turned around in some deep grass on the side of the road and flipped on his blinking lights. If he had clocked me on a straight, I might not have my license. He must have been thinking, "I got me a Porsche!"
Let it be known this is not an urban area, but a mountain road. Cops have never patrolled this road in the 27 years I've been driving it. Posted speeds are kept at 25 so the tourists don't go off the road and over the cliff.
Said they were up there looking for juvenile speeders but were catching workers driving to work instead.
Again, I was surprised I was clocked going that fast as I was in 4th or 5th going uphill and wasn't pushing the car at all. Oh well... time to install that detector.
You are right, though... it is hard to get into 6th around here... but I manage.
Kelly:
Having left Hawaii in disgust after making the mistake of bringing a 911E over there and being subjected to constant harrassment because of it, I empathize with you. Next time, ask the cop to show you the readout of your speed on his gun. If he doesn't have it, you walk. The judge that dismissed a ticket for that reason was Frank Takao, FYI. You have a right to see the evidence being used against you in a criminal trial. If he claims radar, make him show you the evidence or you walk.
