Cy - looks like you have this down to a science, but why Dawn specifically? Also, which RO do you use?

Thanks
Doug

Getting in here very late, but I use Malms, both the polish and glaze and the carnuba wax, and have been very pleased on both cars. I'll have to try Zaino in the future to compare.

Here's my input--I am a Zymol Carbon devotee.

1. Wash the car and use 3m hand glaze on any bug spots or blems
2. Clay the car (once a year for me) with a high quality clay and carnuba spray as a lube (Griots has some nice product for this). Remove swirls and makes the surface smooth and ready for wax
3. Apply Zymol in 2 ft x 2 ft sections
4. Use one microfiber cloth to "break" the wax; another to polish
5. Voila! Drive and enjoy compliments and the shine

Elaspsed time--about 4 hours bumper to bumper

I have never used Zaino and will say I am impressed with the photos. I am just not sold on "polymers," so I continue to use my quality carnuba...

Hey Doug,

Regarding your Dawn question, the following is taken straight from the Zaino website . . . I have no basis for using Dawn other than their suggestion . . . and it does really seem to leave the surface very clean.

From the Zaino website:

3. I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.

I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn. But for this scenario it's fine. High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish though. A car wash is made specifically to clean without removing durable polishes. ALSO, Make sure you remove any water spots, before you apply my products. Because Zaino has no abrasives or harsh solvents it will not remove water spots or stains. Z-18 ClayBar is great for removing any paint surface contaminants. Re-wash the entire vehicle with Z-7 Car Wash immediately after the ClayBar Cleaning Process.
Regarding the RO, I picked mine up at Sears . . . it's a pretty generic one with single 10" (I think) buffer head. Many people here have favorable things to say about the Porter Cable ROs and I'll look into that when the time comes. I use mine only once or twice a year when I do a major cleaning so that'll probably be a while.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Cy - Thanks for the update.

Chris - not to go into a completely separate topic, but from a chemical standpoint, both Carnuba and Zaino are polymers. Carnuba is a naturally occuring one, and Zaino is one which has been created in a lab. Much the same as comparing motor oils - regular and synthetic...

Thank you for the correction, Doug. It's been a few years since Chemistry class! I should have written "naturally occuring substance."

Hi Monique,

It's really very hard to find some decent products here in Belgium!

Thanks for the link.

Wich products do you use of maguiars for the paintwork?
I was thinking about the following products

step1 Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
step2 Deep Crystal Polish
step3 Deep Crystal System Carnauba Wax or NXT Generation Tech Wax

Any comments?

Thanks in advance

I would use the:

Step 1: Gold Class Clear Coat Prep.
Step 2: Gold Class Clear Coat Liquid Wax.

Your paint has a clearcoat whereas mine does not.

If you have visible and annoying scratches, their Scratch X does great work.

No affiliation, yada yada etc,

I have tried that combination in the past and was not too happy with the result. It certainly did not have the "pop" thatsome of the better quality products i.e. Zaino, Klasse, p21s, etc... produce. I have seen amazing examples of Meguire's detailed cars, I have just never been able to reproduce the shine on mine. Just my .02

This is what I ordered on-line 5 min agoby meguiar's

Gold class car wash shampoo & conditioner 16oz 7.99 euro
ScratchX 7oz 14.99 euro
Deep crystal polish 16oz 12.99 euro
NXT generation tech wax 532ml 24.99 euro

Hi-pile 100% cotton towel 6.99 euro

I hope that it's worth the money! and the work of course

Should I wash the car with a normal detergent before I start with the process to ge rid of the wax that's already on the car?

Regards
