My day at the track-- Willow Springs
I went down to meet some fellow Rennlisters at
Willow who were running a TrackQuest event today
at Willow. I met Steve OFE, Viper Bob, Jauder(icerbofh)
Scott Mellor and some new ones for me Mooty (John)
and Silver Bullet(Kim) It was a nice dsy till the wind came up.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
The Good- Every one over on the GT3/GT2 forum
are always arguing which car is better mine(GT3) is...no mine
is(GT2) well someone always ends the argument with
"well it doesnt matter a Radical will EAT YOU BOTH
for lunch" Well ViperBob was eating these guys up.
he passed two right off the bat and was catching a
3rd Radical before coming off the track and then Bob was
complaining he was not getting enough boost because
one of his turbo hoses was loose. God forbid if he gets
it right because no one was a match for Viper Bob's
993Twin Turbo NOBODY including Radicals all in the
expert class!!! Great driving Bob!!
The Bad--- Jauder (icerbofh) is still smarting from totaling
his C4S awhile ago, (replaced with a beautifull 993TT)
and was not exactly tearing up the track. But when
he got passed by a Mini Coop and a Miata with a terrible
paint job (read lots of drag) I though poor Juader has a
way to go before getting over his tussle with a tree.
Hes keeping his chn up though.
The Ugly.--- Kim AKA Silver Bullet was ripping up the track,
just blistering the asphalt until coming into turn one a big
puff of smoke comes out and oil was going everywhere!!
Of course the guy behind him was in a convertible and looked
like a wildcat oil man after striking it rich-- completely
covered in warm Mobil one--At press time there was no
diagnosis yet-oil line or motor. Good luck Kim I hope for
the best!!
Steve OFE and Scott Mellor were pretty quick but I did not
get to see Mooty run or just plain missed him.
Steve did win honors for uglyest tape job though.
All in all plenty of
fun and I hope to see more of you out there especially when
I get enough cohones to go out there my self!

Hey OG,
Thanks for the commentary.
I'd love see Viper Bob run some time. I hope all is well with Kim.
I can't believe Jauder, did you say a Mini AND a Miata passed him in a TT. Ouch! ( Not that I could do any better, but that's gotta hurt the old ego a little)

I just got back from Willow and wish I would have met you OG. I was in the Pastel yellow 993 parked next to Kim. Did you see his rod sticking through the top of the case right behind the fan? I had the pleasure of riding with Viper Bob during one of the sessions and I can tell you that car is hang on tight scary fast. We were running just over 140 mph before he started braking for turn one, than it's hang on, very hard braking and about 110 through turn 1. Bob said he had the boost turned down because of the new turbos and I can imagine what it's like when he has it dialed in.
During my time in Bob's car he kept up a running commentary teaching me the right lines and the best ways to take each turn, all this while running at outrageously fast speeds. I went out in the next group in my car and it felt like an old Volkswagon in comparison.
I want to thank Viper Bob for the ride and the and all the advice he gave me. It's something I will remember for a long time. Thanks also to the other instructors I rode with and who rode with me. I can highly recommend an event like this. Not only is it a lot of fun but I became a much better driver.
It was great to see some of the Rennlisters there and put faces to the names.

I saw your car. I thought you had a 996 or I woulda put 2+2 together!!
Fister i was kidding about jauder-But he was slow and he did get passed
by a Miata.
Rich I did see the Kart races. I did not pay attention other than noting
it was like last nites Discovery Chanel.
Rand I still cant believe I did not intorduce myself!!
Jeesh. My turbo was on the other side of VBobs trailer.

Who was driving the Radicals? A well driven Radical is almost as quick (depends on the track) as a 996GT3RSR. Not saying Bob nor his car aren't quick but a well driven Radical should leave him eating dust.
I have ridden and driven in some quick cars and none of them were close to a Radical.

I am *VERY* slow.
In fact, I was busy yelling out the window "Hey, Wait For Me!!!!!!!!!!"
BTW I would like to apply for the additional title of Director, "Unplanned/Unexpected" Track Event Planning as a complement to John Hua's Director, "Unsanctioned" Track Event Planning. John and myself have put roughly 1500 miles on his C2 and my Turbo over the last 3 days. We started Friday driving to Thunderhill and I somehow was talked into driving down to Willow Springs which is 7hrs away after a whole day of driving.
Obviously the last two days have been spent at Willow Springs which is a very fun track. Pretty scary Saturday morning but a blast by today.
Paul, it was good to see you again as well as meet some of the SoCal guys namely, Steve (ca993twin) and Scott Mellor.
I may be slow but I sure drive a lot . Now I wonder what days are open next month....
PS, everyone please send Kim a virtual/real pat on the back. After what happened to his car on Saturday, he really hung in there. Here's to Kim getting back onto the track again soon.

BUT with your great attitude (i.e. letting faster drivers passed you and leaving your ego in the front gate), you'll learn a lot and I bet you'll be doing much better in the future
Btw regarding future DE events (or schedules), check with Kim... he has the "black book" on that

Yes Jauder has a GREAT attitude. I was only chiding him a little bit.
he is a great guy thats why I picked on him, ONLY a little. but hey
they picked on me for wimping out and not getting the TT ON the
track instead of BY the track!!
