Bentley says the transmission bell housing to the engine is 23Nm(17ft-lbs)

The torque for the starter is different than the studs securing the bell housing to the crankcase (which I believe you'’re pointing to in your first picture).

hope this helps.

I am a bit surprised at that torque of bell to engine... That 17 is an M8 torque spec, those are M10 studs, which are typically ~34 ft lbs. I have had my engine and trans apart no less than 10 times and have always torqued bell to motor at 35 ft-lbs.

I scoured the manual and could not find the spec in there also... I did find starter to trans at 34 ft-lbs.

Agreed. Bentley could be wrong. M10s are typically in the range you shared. Guten Tight might apply here.
