so we are stuck with the same one? no aftermarket ones either I take it since it's such a small number of us.
I found a thread I started in 2005 on the same subject.... with the same answer. You can put an OEM Aluminum one or a wood one on .... but that is about it.
Here is an old photo I found in the thread of what I came up with, IMHO, deleting the plate and putting a boot on from a manual is one of the nicest things you can do to improve the look of the tiptronic.
Bought this in Japan many years ago. Specifically made for 964/993 Tiptronics. It's a really well built seriously nice piece. The ball unscrews and can be replaced with a delrin or titanium one.
Was about $250 CAD
It was a company called APR Japan (www.apr-jp.com) not the same company as the APR in the US.
Unfortunately they don't make these anymore as I bought the 2nd last one.... EDIT: realized that the link doesn't work... They must have closed down

here's a glimpse of my $20 pep boys tip shifter. pops right in and some well placed rubber bands on the shaft keep it tight. matches my alum bits nicely too. gratuitous shot of my 340 paddle wheel included.
I had a similar shifter (Alu and carbon) to the post above. Think it was made by Razo. Worked well for years. Just the button on th etop bothered me a little.
Actually I just remembered have another Japanese made shifter that was pretty awesome before I got my current one. I'll try to find it and post a pic later.
This is what I had in my car before..... I purchased a factory OEM manual shift boot and cut off the manual shift ****.
The **** had a spring loaded inner sleeve so when you pushed down it would act like pressing the button.

Reproductions of the aluminum Tequipment **** and button, albeit without the crest, are available in the UK, just under $200
