So I just got the car and the handle is installed but the cover to hold the carpeting is off. I undid the bolt but seems to be a bold into a bolt. I can’t slide the bolt out to install the plastic cover piece.
anyone dealt with this before? Any help appreciated
Someone messed up. There are bolts that hold the handle cover on and bolts directly behind those that hold the handle frame to the car body. They must be installed in sequence. Bolt to body then cover bolt on.

ok figured. Now I have to figure out how to remove this. Is so weird.

ok the long bolt you see is like screwed into the "star" head and won't budge. will spray and see if it loosens up. cant even really get anything to grip it to unscrew the two apart
Hi Wellcraft,
Two release lever mechanism styles, one with a key lock (30) for the frunk and the other without (29), the missing cover and mounting screw pictured above is in positions 23 & 24 in the below diagram.

Thank you. I have the cover which started all this. I was trying to put it on to keep the carpet edge tucked in and figured be a two minute job. Unbolt and put the cover on and rebolt. of course not. bolt came out then that star bolt thing is in there so can't slide the bolt out to put the cover on. will have to order new bolts and work on that contraption. I assume the bolt is screwed into it but wouldn't budge for me at all might just have to saw it. will spray and see if I can break it loose.
If you want a totally new (used) one check out Weekend Rides or European Auto parts on ebay. They have them with the correct bolts. I just replaced mine and had to take it totally apart, not difficult but dm me for pics of the unit apart and how to put that top bolt in.

Good point. That was the most difficult part for me. Handle had to be open to install top bolt. Make sure you disconnect the hood release cable while trying to install that top bolt. Much easier that way.
