Post Archive Help

Sorry if this is a lame question, but I'm having trouble searching the archives. I go to "Web Forums," then to "Main Web Forum" which opens up a new web page (which was the "old-look" webpage) and go to "Search Archives."

Problem: it's not finding what I remember seeing. I used the "Any" word search looking for a specific topic that I absolutely recall reading, limited it to the last 5 months, and I get nothing. Am I in the wrong area? Help.

Make sure you set the time range. By default, it's set to search the past 3 weeks, which won't give you any results, since we've been using this board for several months now.

Usually, I select the "Posted Between" radio button and change the starting year to 1995. Even the old board doesent go back that far, but that way, you can be sure that you get _ALL_ the records.

Jeff,

I made sure that the date parameter was from present back to six months ago. I checked all my search settings...it still isn't working for me. Are you also in the same search area? --i.e. there is only one "archive" area, right?

Here's the archive area that I was looking at:

<a href="http://boards.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/993/993.pl?search" target="_blank">http://boards.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/993/993.pl?search</a>

Are you sure that you clicked the radio button next to "Posted Between"??? By default, the selection for "Posted within the last..." is selected. Just changing the date in the box without change the radio button doesn't do any good!

Click on "search" at the top of your page under "Post Topic" for the search page for that forum.

Below are the bookmarked links I use to the current 993 Board archives and to the old (limited) 993/996 Board archives.

<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search&search_forum=3" target="_blank">current 993 Board Archives</a>

<a href="http://boards.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/993/993.pl?search" target="_blank">993/996 Board Archives (8/11/00 - 5/18/01)</a>

For the current Board:
- decide if a match "all" or "any" search will be best for you. Generally, start narrow & broaden your search as needed. Link default is "all."
- pick your forum - link default is "993 Forum."
- link default will search the "entire message."
- link default will search "any date."

For the old Board:
- reselect the "Posted between" button with the range as shown (that's all there is).
- select "any" or "all" search terms.

What are you searching for?

Duhhh!

Thanks, Dan, for pointing out what I failed to see...the "search" link underneath "Post Topic/Reply." <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" />
I knew it had to be something lame I was doing. Thanks again.
