Key light/battery info needed
Grrr. I took apart my key to find what battery was required to get the thing to actually work. I found a "random" piece of metal that looks broken inside (my guess is the contact for the positive terminal of the battery). Can anyone post a picture of the inside of their key so I can see what it's supposed to connect to? This is a strange shaped battery too. Will I have any luck at Radio Shack or is it best to go to the dealer to get a replacement (mine says V625U).
TIA
TIA
Maybe it's an excellent time to upgrade to the new key cap?
Porsche recently changed the crest on the key cap from silver/black to a colored crest.
IMO, it looks much nicer and modern now.
The part# of the key cap remains the same.

Thanks to all. I actually found the battery at Target. Unfortunately the bulb in one of the two keys is dead. Seems like a good reason to put together an order for Gert. On the other hand, I just might get carried away with all the goodies available and get into trouble...
My wife still can't believe I order parts from a guy named Gert in Belgium. She thinks it's a good way to explain to other folk how nuts I am about the car. I choose to think of it as a good way to save money and support Rennlist.

I replaced my bulb with an LED and the single battery with two small 3V batteries. All these came from one of those small and bright LED keychain lights. Took some tinkering, but the key light is amazingly bright now.
I initially tried to replace the original battery and the light bulb, but wasn't satisfied with the results at all.
They should make an LED version of the key light...
Oh well, some people tinker with the p-car, some tinker with the p-car key...
Cheers...

The service manager at my dealer did it free once, while I watched, then I did it once on my own when I upgraded to the new remote. Pages 18-22 of the manual explain it, but I would not have figured it out without seeing it done. For example, mentioned but not clearly, is that you have to program not just the one you are adding, but all remotes consecutively at the same time, starting each next one within the specified time limit.

Finn:I need an extra set of key & remote?
I assume I have to program the remote etc. or?
What are the costs?
remote control was $100 with switchblade housing
master key cut was $19, Get your key code and go to town. Follow the directions in your owner's manual. It's kinda fun. BTW - don't freak out when you see your new key - just try it cause it works. IMO - I like the switchblade better because it keeps your other keys hanging and not touching the dash. Good Luck
