Post Source For Brake Capiler Piston Rubber Dust Covers

Does anyone have a source for 993 brake caliper piston, rubber dust covers? Porsche only sells these as part of a caplier rebuild kit which includes piston, gasket and rubber dust cover, which of course is expensive if you only need the dust covers.

I'm having my calipers powder coated and only need the dust covers.

TIA

I had mine powder coated last year. I bought what I think you are referring to as dust covers from my local dealer. They were very costly considering what they were (about $ 4 each) but not much considering the number needed and cost in comparison to the final product. I cant say I am sure we are talking about the same thing but I think they are the little round rubber caps. If so, and you cant get from your local dealer, email me at mmcglasson@bankofspringfield.com and I will see if I can get some sent to you with a credit card. Mick

Mick:

Thanks for your reply, but I'm refering to a different part. These rubber seals/dust covers are the shape of a donut and the pistons come through the centers. They are located inside the capilers where the pistons come into contact with the back of the brake pads.

I was able to find just the dust boots at Truechoice motorsports.

<a href="http://www.truechoice.com/store/searchresults.asp" target="_blank">http://www.truechoice.com/store/searchresults.asp</a> Search for "dust boot"

They are $3.75 each, instead of the $25 or so the dealer wants for the entire rebuild kit. Remember you need 4 boots per caliper. As I recall, the front standard calipers require 2-36mm and 2-44 mm boots each.

I went ahead and ordered extra and plan to replace these boots each season. Anyone who has done much track time will find these things are literally cooked. I also replaced the rear boots, but they were in much better shape than the fronts.

Tom, are those part numbers for the big reds or the standard black/silver (C2, C2S, C4)?

The 36mm and 44mm boots are for the "standard" front caliper. The "S" caliper utilizes different size pistons. I suspect the PET would give you those sizes if someone else does not chime in here. If I am not mistaken, the "standard" rear calipers use 30 and 34 mm pistons. You could always remove one of your boots and look at the part number molded into it. The boots from Truechoice are genuine Brembo parts.

Well, I was busy rebuilding my calipers for $3.75, that's where.

I just found these a couple of months ago. I did exhaustive research into the issue... typed "Brembo Dust Boot" into Google and out popped the source.

Tom:

Your the man! They have all but the 34mm rear boots listed on their website, did they manage to find those for you as well?

Thanks again,

Yes, give them a call. They were able to get the 34mm boots too. Same price.
