My 96C2 has the aluminum intake manifold without any label and my friend has a 97C2 with a similar looking intake that has "Varioram" in script casted into the top. Is this a year to year variation? Is there any difference other than the label? The non-varioram intakes are plastic, aren't they?

Grant -

To the best of my knowledge, all non varioram intakes were plastic.

Some of the early Varioram intakes did not have the script.

I'm certain others with more specific smarts will chime in.

Check out the label inside your front hood. In the third line an engine code is written:

It shoud be "M64.23" oder "M64.24" for the US spec, then you have the 285 hp varioram engine, if some previous owner didn't replace anything...

As Howard mentioned, the early '96s just did not have the script cast into the intake. No other difference though....
