Default RPM question

I like to run my 993 non turbo at 3400 rpm’s when on the Highway for extended period of time.
am I hurting anything by doing this other than mpg? Thanks in advance

Is there any particular reason you’re highway driving in 4th for extended periods? At minimum I’d imagine everything needlessly rotating 40% faster would result in faster wear (e.g. belts, plugs, caps/rotors, injectors, pumps, bearings, etc). Your engine is rotating 40% more to accomplish the same mileage (2500 vs 3500rpm). I have no evidence, but I’d assume that doesn’t come without a price.

I installed a 4:10 rear. I’m not racing my car and it runs fantastic
in 6th gear, at 80mph on I75 in Florida (which has a 70mph) speed limit, I’m at 32-3400 rpm

Ah, ok that makes sense. As they say everything is a trade-off. If it makes you feel any better I had a couple E92/E93 BMWs (2007/2009) and they’d cruise at about 3000. I believe it was a 3.91:1 ratio. You’ll probably go through consumables a bit quicker.

I have to tell you this car is an animal now it feels like it has 50 more horsepower. My local Porsche specialized facility also dropped the engine and massaged it with RS cams and put in the fabspeed exhaust but it was too loud for me so I had the stock 911 mufflers back in but left the rest of the Fab speed exhaust.

I have a Soul X Pipe with 200 cell cats and Fister III exhaust. We now have issues with our HOA but no regrets. F those Karens. 👍

Ha!

I find these cars just start to come to life at 3,000 RPM. I have an RS fan hub in the 993, Clewett in the 964, and never worry about charging. 3,400 is a happy place, and your engine will thank you for that.

You now have me convinced to go the x pipe route. I live in the biggest HOA in the country. I hate it. I'd rather go the GT3 center exhaust route though... I have to run cats in Colorado. Still need smog every 2 years.

I have all of my work done by RennHaus in Sarasota Fl. I live in Bradenton.
the 993 many upgrades. 6th gear was useless unless you wish to drive over a 100mph on our
roads. I do not track the car.
I also installed a fantastic stereo with 2 subwoofers that sits on the rear seats with coverings to match the carpet.
amps are removable and sit in the rear tire with a plexiglass cover
