My immobilizer drove me crazy two years ago. I spent about $1,500. at two shops trying to bypass or disarm it. (Car would not start) No way. You need the special code to reprogram it and make sure you carry a spare battery for the key. You are stuck with that irritating system.

For what it's worth, I had my DME reprogramed to no longer require a pulse from the immobilizer circuit for the car to start. My understanding is that this is a required first step. Now, I need to figure out which elements from the alarm module need to be jumped or disabled.

Gary,
As John mentioned, Steve Weiner can disable the Immobilizer system. I discussed this with him a while back when we spoke about sending my ECU for "re-chip".
Jean-Pierre is correct though, this sytem is thought to provide be excellent theft-prevention. I would think twice about disabling it.

The 993 immobilizer sends more than just a pulse to the DME. It sends a start O.K.
"word" to the DME which is common to ALL 993s. As a result, this approach is not
a true immobilizer as is the 996 immobilizer which has a unique 10 digit code for
each car VIN.
The 993 DME unit also controls the; fuel pump relay & starter solenoid. As posted,
the 993 DME can be modified to not require the immobilizer command. The immobilizer
system should not be removed unless the car is converted to a "track-only" car.

Hi Greg:
Perhaps I can answer your question,..........
If you replace the original ECU with a new or used one, your unique immobilizer code must be programmed into the replacement ECU with the PST-2 so that the car will start.
The only exception would be if the replacement ECU's EPROM immobilizer function was disabled or that your replacement ECU did not have the immobilizer (drive-block) function.
Once can buy an ECU both with, and without that feature.

Not True!
1st - Definitions
ECU means - electronic control unit, which can refer to any electronic module
in the 993 including the immobilizer.
ECM means - engine control module, the DME unit in the 993
2nd
Any 993 DME unit will function with any immobilizer. They are NOT "matched"
as with the 996 units. Obviously, this refers to 88 pin DMEs in the '96-'98 993s.
Re-read my original post above.

I live only 40 minutes away from NYC. Let me know if you want to take it from me. I will sell you at the same price that I paid.
