Yeah, I'd have to agree with Vic. Front looks good, but the rear is a little off.

Someone on the 996 board says the front looks too much like a Beetle ;-) ... you just can't please everybody!

The guage on the dash is not a clock but a motorsport chronograph that's a timer, it's an option.
I detest the steering wheel.
The rounded and softened cut lines for the hood are not appropriate for an aggressive sports car.
The rear fender bulges are nice, not enough for the front fenders.
I wholeheartedly agree with Anir's view that it's not a sufficiently coherent design at first blush, however most 911's look better in person than pics because you get a sense of proportion when looking at in space.

I like it alot better than the 996. The interior is a little Audiesque imo and that is a good thing compared to the rental car interior of the 996. I hope it feels tight and solid. Wait....what was that??? Oh that was the value of 996's falling like a ton of bricks....

Let's see...where do I begin...
1. Hood is too bland, need detailing ala our air vents...I saw a 996 with a 993-like hood and it does make a difference
2. Rear is too Quasimodo-like
3. A rear reflector strip ala 993 and 996 C4S would give the illusion of a wider and lower car, and help mitigate humpback look
4. Wing mirrors looked contrived vs. simpler teardrop mirrors of the 993
5. Chrome strip around headlamps spoil simplicity. Also lacks balance as there are no other chrome highlights on the exterior. At least the crystal-like headlamp innards re-introduce the projector headlamps, unless that's only for the HID cars like the 996
6. Wheels are overdesigned vs. traditional Porsche wheels like the simpler 996 lightweights, the turbo twists, or Cup wheel
7. Square exhaust cut-out contradict organic curves
8. Quad exhaust look more like M3-wannabe rear-end as opposed to Ferrari's quad exhaust which echoes the quad taillamps
9. Clock looks out of place and more like a rice-boy aftermarket mod
10. Center console looks busy but I guess that's the price of more gadgets. At least there's no dreaded iDrive ****.
I like the front air dam and the smooth integration of the turn signals. The interior gauges return to the more distinct pre-996 lay-out with more real-estate (I have a real hard time getting a speed read-out on the 996/Boxster display)
I have nothing against progress and will take the 997 chassis and engine any day but as for the aesthetics, I'm keeping my 993, thank you very much.
With the exception of MB, all the latest German cars just aren't hitting my aesthetic hot button (new 5-series, Audi horseshoe grill,...)

I like the front end, maybe now we can easily distinguish a 911 opposed as a boxter behind us. But you have to agree the driver has a look as if something is missing...

Maybe it's the photo....? Doesn't the front end ( yellow car ) look like a VW Beetle ( from the bumper up )? Nonetheless, IMHO, it's better looking than 996.

And from the front, I can't figure out if it looks like a carp or a cat with whiskers?
An improvement but now I think we will all be waiting for the 998.
